Card A, or temporary protection in Belgium: how to extend the validity period and financial assistance

Card A in Belgium is a residence permit granted to foreigners from non-EU countries, including Ukrainians, who have the status of temporary protection in this country. Ukrainians who arrived in Belgium after February 24, 2022, received an A card valid until March 4, 2023. We tell you how Ukrainians in Belgium can extend the validity of the document.
How can Ukrainians extend the validity period of their residence permit in Belgium?
From January 4, 2023, Ukrainians who have the status of temporary protection in Belgium can apply to the municipality at their place of residence and extend the validity of the A card until March 4, 2024.
You can apply for the extension of the A card online on the portal or by calling 02 279 22 11.
Necessary documents and registration conditions
To renew your residence permit in Belgium, you need to provide your passport, your existing A card that is expiring, and a photo with a white background.
Card A can be obtained both in standard terms - from 2 to 3 weeks, and urgently - the next day. A standard application costs EUR 25, and an urgent application costs EUR 150. You will receive a new card at the municipality where you live.
Financial assistance to Ukrainians in Belgium
Ukrainians who have the status of temporary protection in Belgium can issue a one-time and monthly payment. If a person lives alone, he can receive 1,100 euros, adult members of the same family can receive 750 euros, children are paid 100-200 euros, but the total maximum amount of payments per family cannot exceed 1,560 euros.
In order to receive financial assistance, two requirements must be met:
• not to leave the country for more than 28 days during the year;
• warn your social inspector about every trip outside Belgium.
To apply for financial assistance, you need to go to the nearest social welfare center OCMW/CPAS with your passport and A card.

The simultaneous stay of visitors in the hotel lobby not more than one person per 10 square meters of serviceable area is allowed.
Persons can visit hotels and stay there (outside hotel room) only if they wear respirator or face mask (including homemade mask), so that the nose and mouth are covered.
