Montenegro continues to provide asylum to Ukrainians staying in the country as refugees. In particular, the government has extended the temporary status for another year. We will tell you how to extend the asylum and what you need to do next.

How to extend temporary protection for Ukrainians in Montenegro: details

Within three weeks, from 21.02.2023 to 10.03.2023, all citizens of Ukraine and foreigners who have been granted temporary protection status in Montenegro must personally apply to the offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro (MUP) at their current place of residence to obtain a new temporary protection document, which will be valid until 11.03.2024

Please note! Applying at the place of your current residence means the community where you reside as of the date of application (you do not need to apply in the place where you received protection).

The only exception is the re-issuance of the document in the Budwańska Commune (Oprztyn), which will take place not in Budwa, but in Petrowacz, 8 B.N. Street (in front of the police station). In the city of Budwa. Only persons with disabilities will be able to reissue documents in Budva with the assistance of the Red Cross of Budva.

A personal application means an application by each adult family member; persons under 18 years of age do not need to come in person, their legal representatives can obtain a new document for them.

What documents do Ukrainian citizens need to extend their temporary protection in Montenegro?

To extend the status, you must have the following documents

- original confirmation of temporary protection, which will be replaced with a new one;

- personal documents (passport, birth or marriage certificates with translation, etc.);

Opening hours of the offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro (MUP)

During the first week (from 21.02.2023 to 24.02.2023), the opening hours of the MUP offices will be from 8.00 to 15.00.

From the second week (from 02/27/2023 to 03/10/2023) - from 8.00 to 17.00;

Where can I get a document on the extension of protection?

A new confirmation of temporary protection will be issued immediately upon application on the spot (no need to wait and come back the next time).

Where can I apply for help with the renewal of temporary protection in Montenegro?

During three weeks, the Embassy together with the association "Dobra Sprava" will provide Ukrainian volunteers at the offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to help with translation and provide explanatory work (volunteers will have special marking badges).

Representatives of UNHCR, the NGO Civil Alliance and the Red Cross will also be on duty at the offices, and you can contact them in case of any problems:

- Citizens of Ukraine and foreigners who are applying for protection now, as well as those who have applied for temporary protection for the first time but have not yet received confirmation, will receive a new confirmation valid until 11.03.2024. At the same time, those who have not picked up their existing confirmations must first pick them up and reissue new ones.

- During these three weeks, dynamic changes to the reissuance procedure are possible, so please follow the Embassy's Facebook page and the Consul's Telegram channel on a daily basis;

- In case of any problematic issues, please contact the Ukrainian Centers in Montenegro, as well as the hotline of the Good Deed Association +382-68-66-25-67 (Viber, Telegram).

Please note! All citizens of Ukraine who do not have time to reissue their documents by 10.03.2023 will not be left without protection in Montenegro; taking into account the possible number of unissued documents, the Embassy will facilitate the adoption of additional decisions by the Ministry on this issue.

We will remind you, earlier, we wrote that Montenegro will soon offer free housing to Ukrainians who need it most. Read more here.
