Now in Europe, there is an increase in the number of COVID-19 infections. The German authorities have decided to introduce new rules to protect the population in the autumn-winter period.

In particular, on September 8, the Bundestag of Germany approved the proposal of the Ministry of Health "On the implementation of new measures to combat COVID-19". This decree will enter into force on October 1 and will be valid until April 7, 2023.

What will change as of October 1?

According to the new rules, all citizens over the age of 14 must wear an FFP2 mask on long-distance trains. Children between the ages of six and thirteen may wear a medical mask.

People aren’t required to wear a mask in airplanes and airports. This rule applies to both domestic and international flights. The authorities foresee the possibility of changing this rule if the level of infections increases.

The rules for combating the coronavirus in medical facilities and homes for the elderly will become stricter. All visitors and employees must wear an FFP2 mask and provide a negative rapid test result (for employees, testing will be conducted three times a week).

Federal lands may have additional requirements depending on the situation. Decisions may concern the wearing of masks in transport and other public spaces, as well as secondary schools. Additionally, testing can be introduced in schools and kindergartens.

The decree contains exceptions for vaccinated and recovered citizens and those who have a negative test. Such persons may be exempted from wearing masks.

German officials hope that the decisions will help reduce the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic in Germany during the cold months of the year.
