In 1889, 1890, 1896, the best artists, the troupe of the Vienna Opera, came to Yekaterinoslav. However, the city did not have its own drama, opera, or ballet troupe. Until 1907, the city did not have its own theater either. Tours of the First State Ukrainian Theater in 1921 and the Moscow Art Theater in 1925 led to the creation of two theaters in the city at once. In the autumn of 1927 the First Ukrainian Theater named after. Shevchenko accepts the invitation and moves to a permanent place in Dnepropetrovsk. In 1931, the Dnepropetrovsk working opera theater was created in the city, which will operate until the autumn of 1941. In the autumn of 1941, the theater was evacuated to Krasnoyarsk, after the end of World War II, the troupe of the Dnepropetrovsk working opera theater merged with the troupe of the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater . And the Dnepropetrovsk working opera theater ceased to exist. In December 1974, the Dnepropetrovsk Opera and Ballet Theater was restored in Dnepropetrovsk. In 2003, the Dnepropetrovsk Opera and Ballet Theater deservedly received the title of academic theater. The theater troupe visited with tours: Bulgaria, Poland, France, Ireland, Lebanon, China, Jordan, Israel, USA, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany. Actors of the National Opera of Ukraine began their career on the stage of the theater: Mikhail Koshcheev, Irina Petrova, Anna Dorosh, Ekaterina Kuhar, and others. Opera and Ballet Theatre, many talented actors of these theaters began their creative career on the stage of the Dnepropetrovsk Opera and Ballet Theater In 2022, the theater artists took part in the Giacomo Puccini festival, presenting the opera “BOHEMA” in the city of Polistela, as well as the concert program “My name is Ukraine”, which featured Ukrainian folk music, music by Ukrainian composers Lysenko, Skorik, Skorulsky.
