About this tour

Chernihiv remembers the events of different times: the "visits" of the Vikings and the glory of Kievan Rus, the revival in the era of the Cossacks, the leisurely, measured course of life in the provincial period, the destruction during the Second World War, the blockade from February to March 2022... The most important diamond of Dytynets is the Transfiguration Cathedral - the oldest surviving cathedral in Ukraine. It was founded no later than 1030 by the Chernihiv prince Mstislav the Brave. The Catherine Church (15th century) is a classic example of Ukrainian Baroque. It has reached our days almost unchanged.

2

Pyatnytsa church

In the center of Chernihiv, another masterpiece of the Old Russian era (c. 12th - c. 13th century) has been preserved. A peer of "Words about Igor's regiment" and the last church of the pre-Mongol period that existed in Chernihiv. A church of incredible beauty, interesting architecture and historical destiny. This is the only Old Russian church in Chernihiv without plaster walls, so we will be able to see unique signs on the ancient Russian brick plinth and investigate it.

3

Boldyn mountains

They are located near the historical center. This is another complex full of unique archaeological and architectural monuments. It is here that you should visit the legendary Antonia Caves. They were founded in 1069, and have unusual energy and a mysterious atmosphere. The 17th-century Trinity Cathedral is also a must-visit in the Boldyn Mountains, a bright monument of baroque architecture. The temple preserves miraculous relics of saints, so it will be interesting also for guests to whom the religious aspect is important. The dominant feature of the complex is the 58-meter bell tower, which offers a fantastic panorama of Chernihiv.

4

Yeletsky Assumption Monastery

This monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Russia, which is still active. The names of princes and hetmans are associated with it, it was the center of ancient Ukrainian culture. The main temple, Assumption Cathedral, has features of Italian architecture, which we will discover during the tour. It is also the only church in Chernihiv that has preserved a large number of ancient Russian frescoes. The masterpiece of the monastery is the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Yelets, 17th century.

Pagan, princely burial in the middle of the 10th century, a unique and world-famous archaeological site. It was explored in the 19th century, full of valuable and interesting things.
