Hotels in Bulgaria continue to accommodate Ukrainians with refugee status until October 31. This was announced by the Minister of Tourism of the country, Ilyn Dimitrov, in an interview with the BNT TV channel.
According to him, this will be the end of the current humanitarian program, which will provide an opportunity to launch a new mechanism for the integration of Ukrainians who suffered due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation and were forced to leave Ukraine.
Reorganization of the structure of aid to refugees arose because of the complicated way of disbursing European money. Currently, there are 32 stages that must be overcome in order for the funds to be received by those to whom they are intended. The term of such payments is not less than 15 days.
Difficulties and scandals in Bulgaria began in the summer, when in June the government tried to curtail the housing assistance program for Ukrainian refugees (accommodation in hotels at Black Sea resorts). The citizens' reaction was sharp, which was confirmed by calls for the resignation of the initiator of such a decision - Deputy Prime Minister Kalyna Konstantinova.
Of the nearly 300,000 people who came to Bulgaria from Ukraine as refugees, 110,000 were resettled by the state. But local activists claim that most Ukrainians in Bulgaria have housing thanks to public organizations, not the government.
