The financial assistance that Ukrainian refugees receive abroad does not always cover all their monthly expenses. That is why the vast majority of Ukrainians try to find a job in the first months after moving to Europe. However, it is very difficult to find a job in the EU, as Ukrainian diplomas need to be confirmed, and some specialties require re-training.

In which areas do most Ukrainians work?

Ukrainian refugees who have been granted temporary protection have a legal right to work in Europe. However, in order to find a job in their specialty, a Ukrainian must not only confirm their diploma, but also undergo accreditation, re-profiling of education at special courses, and confirm their level of language proficiency in the country in which they have been granted temporary protection. In addition, each country has its own specialists who do not need to go through such a long way to find a job.

Therefore, this option is not suitable for everyone, and therefore, the vast majority of refugees from Ukraine choose industries and positions where they do not need to confirm their qualifications. 

Work at enterprises in EU countries

In particular, most Ukrainians work in industrial plants and factories, where the main duties of workers include monotonous tasks (assembly line labor).

Work in Europe in the field of cleaning

Also, a significant number of Ukrainian refugees work in cleaning companies, receiving a salary for the number of hours worked, and in the case of employment through an agency, also with the deduction of interest. Most often, they clean shopping centers, dormitories, offices, parking lots, or private homes.

Work in the service sector in the EU

Many women choose to work in various catering establishments. Most often, they work in canteens, cafes, restaurants, or bakeries as cooks' assistants or dishwashers.

Seasonal work in Europe

As before the full-scale invasion, many Ukrainians choose seasonal work. It can be either picking berries, fruits, and vegetables or field work within European cities, such as tree planting.

What are the best industries to look for work in Europe?

There are a lot of vacancies in the above-mentioned areas, but, as a rule, demand exceeds supply, and therefore Ukrainians agree to low-skilled labor with low wages. So what are the best industries to look for a job in?

Jobs in construction and repair in the EU

For those who have technical skills, working in construction, car repair, or agricultural production can be a good option. These industries offer higher salaries and stable working conditions. Specialists who are able to lay tiles, facades, roofs, as well as specialists in the installation of windows and doors are especially valued.

Jobs for drivers in Europe

There are many vacancies for public transport drivers for those who have the appropriate category of license. As a rule, in such positions, employees receive a fixed salary, which depends on the region in which they work and the distance of their regular route.

Jobs for students and young people in the EU

For students with knowledge of the local language, there are many vacancies for bartenders and waiters. In addition, additional income can be found on film sets as assistants. As a rule, these are temporary offers, but they provide good experience, new acquaintances, and a good part-time job.

Work in the beauty industry in Europe

One of the most profitable and lucrative options is to work in the fields of beauty and health. Manicurists and pedicurists, hairdressers and colorists, masseurs, cosmetologists, and masters working with permanent hairstyles are in great demand.

The special demand is due to two factors:

● there are a lot of Ukrainian women abroad who are looking for masters from Ukraine;

● the level and quality of services provided by Ukrainian masters is much higher than in European salons.

Vacancies in the photo and video industry

As in the previous case, due to the large number of women with children who have left Ukraine for the EU, the demand for the services of photographers and videographers from Ukraine has increased significantly. After all, when ordering such services, it is much easier to find contact in your native language. Especially if an event involving children is planned.

At the same time, it is important to note that many Ukrainians are now deciding to return home, as evidenced by the long queues to enter Ukraine. After all, the domestic labor market is gradually recovering and offers many vacancies with good salaries. And the absence of the need to confirm diplomas and qualifications, as well as the opportunity to return to their families, outweigh the fact that Europe is much safer than Ukraine.
