The Venice authorities have finally agreed on the decision to introduce a tourist fee for visiting the city. This is stated on the official municipal website. It is also noted that after the approval of this decision by the city council, it will come into force. The test mode of the entrance fee should start in the spring of 2024.

The price for a visit to the historic city and who will be obliged to pay it will be discussed further in the article.

Paid entry to Venice: details

The relevant authorities have stated that the entrance fee to the city is being introduced to manage the flow of tourists who want to visit the historic part of Venice and the small islands of the Venetian Lagoon. This decision was made to limit the number of tourists to a unique place.

The test regime of the visit fee should start in the spring of 2024 and will last for 30 days, but the exact dates will be approved by the city council in the near future. Most likely, the restriction will apply during holidays and vacation periods in spring and summer.

It is reported that during the testing phase, the entry fee will be EUR 5.

Who will be obliged to pay the entry fee?

Individuals aged 14 years and older will be required to pay for a one-day visit to the Ancient City of the Municipality of Venice.

The following groups of citizens do not need to pay an entry fee:

● residents of the Veneto region

● persons in need of special care

● immediate relatives of local residents

● children under the age of 14

● travellers staying overnight in Venice;

● participants in sports competitions;

It is also noted that a special portal will be created in the near future, where all people, without exception, will be required to register before visiting Venice.
