No tickets to Poland: how Ukrzaliznytsia counteracts schemes of resellers

Currently, there is a growing shortage of train tickets to Poland. However, Ukrzaliznytsia is actively fighting against resellers and taking a number of measures to prevent their schemes. Poland has become one of the most popular destinations from Ukraine. That's why the shortage of train tickets to the country is now very common. At the same time, Ukrzaliznytsia is actively fighting ticket fraudsters.

The company explained the steps it is taking to prevent resellers' schemes in selling train tickets to Poland.

According to the press service of the carrier in a comment to UNIAN, the purchase of tickets for the most popular routes has been transferred to a special mobile application. Ticket sales start exactly on time and there is a ban on returning tickets online, which was a serious abuse among resellers.

As a result, during two weeks of intensive control, more than two dozen passengers with tickets whose names did not match the documents were not allowed to board trains.

"As a rule, these are the names of speculators who buy tickets in advance and then resell them with the name changed in a photo editor, which will still be visible to the conductor when scanned, or even without changes. In August, more than 600 accounts used by speculators for mass ticket redemption were blocked," the company representatives said.

How to buy train tickets to Poland?

Ukrzaliznytsia emphasized that due to the measures taken, there are currently no problems with purchasing tickets to Poland.

It is emphasized that train tickets are available for purchase 20 days before the departure date at 08:00 through the Ukrzaliznytsia mobile application. The only exception is the train No. 67/68 Kyiv - Warsaw, for which the sale starts at 09:00 to distribute the load on the app.

In addition, the company has revised the procedure for returning tickets for international trains to Poland: now it can only be done through ticket offices. This guarantees maximum transparency and minimizes the possibility of abuse in the purchase, return and resale of tickets.

Ukrzaliznytsia launches a new train to Poland: what is known

Already this fall, UZ plans to launch a new train connecting Lviv and Warsaw with a transfer between two coordinated trains in Rava-Ruska.

To create the Lviv-Warsaw connection, UZ overhauled the track on the Rava-Ruska - State Border section. The company also completed work on preparing the infrastructure at Rava-Ruska station for convenient train transfers.

"This makes it possible to launch the Lviv-Warsaw connection this fall with a transfer between two coordinated trains in Rava-Ruska, where there has been no cross-border passenger service for more than 15 years," the statement said.

According to representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia, in the near future it is planned to develop a hub model of transportation, including the construction of a track of extended gauge (1435 mm) to the main hub stations of Ukraine, including Lviv. This will significantly increase the number of trains on the Ukraine-EU route and actively involve European railway operators.

UZ trains to Poland: current connections

In August, it became known that passengers faced difficulties in returning tickets for international trains due to restrictions imposed by Ukrzaliznytsia.

Among the trains affected were: No. 67/68 Kyiv - Warsaw; No. 23/24 and 19/20 Kyiv - Chełm; 93/94 Kharkiv - Chełm; 36/35 Odesa - Przemyśl; 32/31 Zaporizhzhia - Przemyśl; 73/74 Kharkiv - Przemyśl; 53/54 and 89/90 Kyiv - Przemyśl; 705/706 and 715/716 Kyiv - Przemyśl; No. 351K/351L Kyiv - Chisinau.

Among international routes, the Kyiv-Warsaw train is currently the most popular among Ukrainians. However, even with the efforts made to combat fare hawking, it is becoming increasingly difficult to buy tickets due to the huge demand. Nevertheless, the train to Chełm is a worthy alternative, as tickets can be purchased and returned much more easily.

We remind you! Earlier we wrote that in early September, Polish Railways will start the planned repair work on the infrastructure in Przemyśl. This will lead to temporary changes in the train schedule. Find out more about the new trains planned and the schedule in our article.
