A small percentage: how many Ukrainians will come home from Poland for Christmas?

Tomorrow, most Ukrainians will celebrate Christmas. However, a significant percentage of citizens choose to celebrate the holiday at their temporary place of residence. Find out more about the reasons for this choice and how many Ukrainians still plan to come home for Christmas

Soon the whole world will be celebrating Christmas. Some Ukrainians abroad are eager to return home for a few days, especially those living in neighboring Poland. However, the majority plan to stay there for Christmas, as for many of them, returning home has become difficult due to the war.


Here's how many Ukrainians will come home from Poland for Christmas.


How many Ukrainians will come home from Poland for Christmas: a new poll


According to RBC-Ukraine, according to information from the migration platform EWL, many Ukrainians choose to celebrate Christmas (48%) with their family and relatives who are also in Poland.

Only 13% plan to return home for the holidays, while 70% decided to stay in Poland for this period. Also, 2% of respondents plan to celebrate the holidays in both countries.


The reasons for staying in Poland for Christmas are varied: 48% are due to the presence of family and relatives in the country, 39% - to the danger due to the war in Ukraine, and 30% - to the difficulty of getting home. 


In addition, 35% of Ukrainians plan to work in Poland during the Christmas holidays.


For 28% of Ukrainians, this will be the first Christmas they will celebrate in Poland. A third (35%) will be in Poland for the second time during the Christmas holidays, 18% - for the third time, and 19% have already been in the country more than three times during the Christmas period.

December 25 or January 7: when will Ukrainians celebrate Christmas?


Regarding the calendar choice, the majority of Ukrainians (54%) celebrate Christmas according to the Gregorian calendar on December 25, while only 10% follow the Julian calendar with Christmas on January 7. A quarter of respondents decided to celebrate the holidays on both calendars.
