Hungary continues to face a shortage of workers in more than 20 different professions. This is reported by schengenvisainfo.com.

Data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) indicate a significant labor shortage in the country, with about 80,000 vacancies registered in mid-2023. This is striking, especially considering that at that point in October, the number of unemployed stood at 202,000, but filling vacancies was difficult due to educational, professional and regional disparities.

In particular, the EURES report shows that the most significant labor shortages in Hungary are in the following areas:

• welders and cutters;

• upholsterers (furniture) and related workers

• roofers;

• operators of pulp and paper production;

• plumbers and pipefitters;

• mining and quarrying workers;

• operators of metalworking shops;

• glass and ceramic operators;

• floor and tile layers;

• concrete pavers, concrete workers and related workers

• carpenters and joiners;

• meat and fish processors in production;

• bricklayers and related workers;

• aircraft pilots and related specialists.

Despite the large labor shortage in Hungary, there are vacancies for which it is difficult to find suitable candidates, which do not involve heavy physical labor and may be particularly attractive to women.
Examples of such vacancies are:

• stewards;

• street food vendors and market sellers;

• shop assistants;

• physiotherapists and assistants

• manual packers;

• medical dental technicians;

• fast food cooks;

• contact center salespeople;

• cosmetologists and related workers.

How to find a job in Hungary for Ukrainians?

Refugees from Ukraine who have temporary protection in Hungary are given the opportunity to access the labor market. However, without language skills, they can count on mostly unskilled jobs with low wages.

The minimum wage in 2024 in Hungary is 266,800 forints (704 euros).

According to Numbeo, the country's monthly living expenses for one person are estimated at about 646.27 euros, and this amount does not cover the cost of rent.

As for rent, its cost depends on the location and size of the apartment. For example, the monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center is approximately 430 euros.
