A discussion has arisen in the Netherlands over a proposal to return Ukrainian refugees to relatively safe regions of Ukraine. This was reported by dutchnews.nl.
This initiative was expressed by members of parliament, in particular representatives of the BBB (Farmer-Citizen Movement) party, during the debate on the government budget on refugee issues.
Return of Ukrainian refugees home: details
As you know, the number of Ukrainians currently residing in the Netherlands is about 100 thousand people.
"We cannot accept everyone. Western Ukraine seems to me to be relatively stable. Is it possible to safely accommodate Ukrainians there?" asked Mona Keizer, a member of the BBB, to Eric van der Burgh, the Dutch Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration.
In response to this proposal, the official noted that the asylum policy is based on the distinction between safe and unsafe regions in the country. However, he emphasized that Ukrainians are subject to the European Temporary Protection Directive, and everyone from Ukraine has the right to asylum.

Nevertheless, representatives of other parties, including GroenLinks/PvdA, expressed their disagreement with this idea, reminding that rocket attacks are now taking place in western Ukraine.
MP Mona Keizer also made a proposal that Ukrainian citizens who find work in the Netherlands should pay for housing and medical care, rather than receive free accommodation and assistance in the amount of 340 to 380 euros per month, as is currently the case.
The possibility of linking the subsistence minimum for Ukrainians to the obligation to go to work is also being discussed. According to the CBS statistical agency, almost half of Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands have already found jobs, mostly in the trade, transportation, and catering sectors.
