Italy and Turkey provide new opportunities for tourists by introducing special visas for people who love travelling and can afford to work remotely. Find out what the specifics of such a visa are and how you can get it
Italy and Turkey have introduced digital nomad visas, which can be issued to non-EU citizens (or those on the Turkish list of 36 countries whose citizens can use such a visa) who can work remotely. Here's how it works and what you need to know if you want to get this visa.
Packing up and starting a new life abroad is a dream for many, and new visa programmes are making this dream more attainable. Portugal, Spain and Costa Rica are among the countries with popular digital nomad visas, and now there are two new options for remote workers.
What are the requirements for this visa?
The visa is available to employees with the ability to work remotely, self-employed persons or directors of companies who work remotely.
The main requirement for citizens is their earnings - they must be at least EUR 24,789 per year.
In addition, you must meet the following rules:
🔻 work experience as a remote specialist for at least 6 months;
An existing employment contract, cooperation agreement or other document confirming the possibility of remote work;
🔻 rented or owned accommodation in the country;
A valid health insurance policy;
🔻 no criminal record for the last five years.

How do I get a digital nomad visa?
To obtain a digital nomad visa, you need to:
- contact the consulate at your place of residence and apply for a digital nomad visa;
- apply for a temporary residence permit no later than 8 days after arrival;
- additionally register as a taxpayer.
