Since the start of the full-scale invasion, many Ukrainians have been forced to seek safety abroad. Despite the difficult circumstances, they have actively started to create their own businesses aimed at compatriots who also found themselves far from home due to the war.

Where do Ukrainians register their businesses most often?

According to the I'm Ukrainian mobile app, a project aimed at uniting Ukrainians around the world, 533 Ukrainian businesses are currently registered in 32 countries. As project manager Yulia Tokar told RBK-Ukraine, most of these companies appear in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom, where the largest Ukrainian communities in Europe live.

However, it should be noted that these are the businesses that have registered in the app, as the actual number of companies is much higher. For example, in Poland alone, 48,464 Ukrainian sole proprietors registered in the period from 2022 to 2023.

At the same time, Yulia Tokar notes that Ukrainians abroad are actively looking for Ukrainian restaurants, services, and beauty salons. The reasons for this are not only the quality of services, but also the patriotic approach to supporting “our own” abroad. Ukrainian entrepreneurs also often employ their fellow countrymen, which provides additional job opportunities for Ukrainians who have moved abroad.

According to the data collected by the project's analysts, Ukrainians most often open businesses in the service, beauty, and catering industries. Ukrainian cuisine, coffee shops, and even sushi restaurants appear in almost every country where Ukrainians live. Often these establishments are targeted specifically at compatriots, although, according to Yulia Tokar, foreigners are increasingly becoming customers.

Online services, such as consultations with psychologists, targeting specialists, and photographers, are also in great demand. In addition, Ukrainians abroad are often looking for yoga, Pilates, and massages, and new studios are actively opening for them.

There are also original projects among Ukrainian businesses abroad. For example, in Croatia, a Ukrainian set up a wood-fired bathhouse, and in Belfast, Ukrainians make healing soap based on Ukrainian herbs and bee products.

Thus, Ukrainian entrepreneurs not only provide services but also create an environment for preserving Ukrainian culture abroad.

We remind you! The current environment makes Ukrainians increasingly think about relocating their businesses abroad. And often it is one of the most profitable solutions, but such a step requires careful analysis.
