In Ukraine, since the beginning of the full-scale war and as of the end of September this year, the Register of Missing Persons under Special Circumstances has listed 55,000 people.

According to Deputy Interior Minister Leonid Tymchenko in an interview with Ukrinform, most of the missing persons are military personnel.

‘This figure is quite dynamic: when the whereabouts of missing persons are established, in some cases it turns out that a citizen, for example, is in captivity. Unfortunately, we also identify the dead among those who were considered missing,’ he said.

Searching for missing persons: applications for DNA sampling have been accepted in some European countries

The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is starting to collect applications for DNA sampling from Ukrainians in Italy, Spain and Portugal whose relatives went missing as a result of the war.

How to sign up for DNA sampling?

To register for DNA sampling, please leave the information about the missing person at the link or by providing the relevant information by calling the ICBL in Ukraine +38(068)791-00-00 (Telegram, Viber, Whatsapp are available). 

Registration for DNA sampling will last until 15 November 2024.
