The Welsh government is suspending applications for housing support for Ukrainian refugees

From June 10, the Welsh government suspends the program for providing free housing for refugees from Ukraine. It is reported by the BBC.
The government assures that the pause is temporary. This is necessary to improve the living conditions for people and provide high standards of support. But this does not affect applications that have already been submitted earlier - refugees who applied before June 10 will be able to arrive in Wales as they receive visas.
"We have seen visas granted well in excess of our initial commitment to welcome people. This temporary pause will give us the opportunity to refine the arrangements we have put in place to support people on arrival and ensure all public services, in particular local authorities, can continue to deliver a high standard of support." - Social Justice Minister Jane Hutt said.
The Welsh government has co-sponsored the British Homes for Ukraine refugee housing program. In contrast to the usual sponsorship, where local people provide their housing, in Wales, the government has taken on the obligation to provide refugees with housing. The Scottish government is also a super-sponsor, where the program continues to operate.
In total, Ukrainian refugees have already received 4,909 visas under the support program in Wales. Of these, 2,456 were provided with housing by local residents, and the rest were provided by the government.
