Norway to deny asylum to Ukrainians from several regions: details
Ukrainians may face problems when applying for temporary protection in Norway, as the country's authorities have restricted this option for some refugees. Find out how the rules have changed and who they apply to
The Norwegian authorities will refuse to grant temporary protection to Ukrainian refugees from ‘safe’ regions. We will tell you about these regions below.
Who will not be granted temporary protection by Norway?
Thus, asylum will not be granted to residents of Lviv, Volyn, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Rivne regions.
Norway considers these regions to be relatively safe, as there are ‘no indiscriminate acts of violence in these areas that would make any person eligible for international protection’.
Note that the changes apply to Ukrainians arriving in Norway now. No changes are expected for those Ukrainians who have already been granted protection in Norway and their close relatives.
By the way, if you face any problems when preparing to move or travel abroad, we advise you to contact migration lawyers who can help you choose a country, living conditions and collect the necessary documents.
How do local authorities explain this?
According to Emilie Mel, Minister of Justice and Public Security, immigration to Norway should be controlled and sustainable, and not disproportionately higher than in the Nordic countries.
‘That is why the government is taking new measures to tighten control. In the future, asylum seekers from Ukraine will be treated on an equal footing with other asylum seekers. The collective protection scheme will now be more precisely targeted at those who need it,’ she said.
At the same time, Mel noted that Norway's support for Ukraine is unwavering.

How many Ukrainians are there in Norway now?
It is noted that Norway has received more Ukrainians than other Nordic countries over the past two and a half years - 85,000 people. This year, the number of arrivals has remained fairly stable, but has increased again in recent weeks.
We would like to remind you that Norway is among the countries that require international insurance for cars with foreign registration. Therefore, you should obtain a Green Card before travelling to this country.
Also, do not forget about health insurance, without which foreigners may have problems with the healthcare system in a new country. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can find a favourable insurance option with the necessary list of risks and guarantee insurance payments.
We wrote earlier that Ukrainian citizens who have travelled to Norway have faced problems with obtaining temporary protection. Some Ukrainians are being denied collective protection.
