Program

Immediately behind the entrance is the main square of the cemetery, from which alleys branch off in different directions. The square is surrounded by several chapels - family churches-tombs of some of the richest Lviv families. Heading down the central alley, you can quickly get to the graves of the classics of Ukrainian literature - Ivan Franko, Markiyan Shashkevych, Volodymyr Barvinsky and well-known composers of the 20th century - Stanislav Lyudkevich, Anatoly Kos-Anatolsky, Mykola Kolessa. A little further on, there are interesting monuments at the burials of artist Arthur Grottger, opera singer Solomiya Krushelnytska, historian Karol Shainokha, archbishop Samuel Kyryl Stefanovych, gymnast Victor Chukarin and composer Volodymyr Ivasyuk. One of the side alleys leads to the graves of famous Poles: writer Severyn Goszczynski, actress Gabriela Zapolska, mathematician Stefan Banach, poet Maria Konopnytska, architect Zygmunt Gorgolewski. Among the tomb sculpture, we meet sad weeping women, ancient deities, sleepy lions and even a sleeping beauty. These are the works of artists of the European level, who immortalized famous and wealthy people with their talent. We also have the opportunity to visit Ukrainian and Polish military cemeteries, where soldiers who fought for different ideals rest next to each other, but we consider them all heroes who gave their lives for their Motherland.
