The flow of citizens crossing the border of Ukraine has increased significantly: what is the reason for the hype
Ukraine has recorded a significant increase in passenger traffic at the border. Queues are observed at some sections. Learn more about what border guards recommend to avoid crowding at border crossing points
In July, more than 3.8 million people crossed the border of Ukraine, and the number of Ukrainians returning is higher than those leaving. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine explained the reason for the rush.
As noted, in July 600 thousand more people crossed the Ukrainian border than in June. This figure is also about 1 million people higher than in May.
What is the reason for the increase in the flow of citizens?
The increase in passenger traffic occurred after the end of the school year in Ukrainian schools. At the beginning of summer, the number of our compatriots traveling from Ukraine prevailed, but this situation has now changed.
The share of Ukrainians among those crossing the border is over 85%. Most of them are women, children, and the elderly.
By the way, in the context of martial law and closed airspace in Ukraine, bus and rail services are among the most convenient and safe ways to travel across the border and within the country. You can buy bus and train tickets quickly and easily here.
It is also worth reminding you that curfews are still in effect in Ukrainian regions, so if you are traveling by car, you should plan your trip during the daytime. However, if your journey takes a long time, you can stay in one of the Ukrainian hotels. On the Visit Ukraine website, you can use the service of booking a room in comfortable hotels in Ukraine.
In addition, citizens can apply for a "green card" to travel by car with confidence. This can be done here.
Please note! When crossing the Ukrainian-Polish border (the most popular section), border guards require a printed "green card" without fail, so prepare a document in advance to pass control.

Queues at the borders
Due to the fact that more than half of the passenger traffic falls on the Ukrainian-Polish border (especially the number of people wishing to cross the border increases from Friday to Monday), queues may be observed there.
In order to avoid standing in lines, citizens are advised to choose routes through checkpoints that are less busy, if possible: Smilnytsia, Hrushev, and Uhryniv, or cross the border on days when passenger traffic is reduced.
It is also worth noting that traveling abroad opens up exciting adventures for us, but along with positive emotions comes the realization that unforeseen situations can arise at any time, creating risks to our well-being and budget. To protect yourself from unnecessary problems, we advise you to think about health insurance for the duration of your trip. Read more about insurance in our article.
