There are 4.07 million refugees from Ukraine under temporary protection in the European Union. In particular, in June 2023, the number of Ukrainian refugees who came to Europe increased by about 46 thousand people. 


According to updated data from Eurostat, the largest increase in refugees was recorded in Germany, the Czech Republic and Ireland over the past month.

Ukrainians continue to seek asylum in the EU: what is known


As of June 30, the number of Ukrainians in the European Union amounted to 4 million 70 thousand people. Most of them found refuge in Germany (28%), Poland (24%) and the Czech Republic (9%).


The largest increase in refugees from Ukraine over the past month was recorded in the following countries:


• Germany: 21,830 people (+2.0%);

• Czech Republic: 9,050 people (+2.7%);

• Ireland: 3,100 people (+3.7%).


However, two countries experienced a decrease in refugee flow in June:


• Poland: -13,635 people (-1.4%);

• Italy: -1,005 people (-0.6%).

Which countries received the largest number of refugees?


Among the European Union member states, Germany received the largest number of Ukrainians - 1,133,420 people, which is 28% of all asylum seekers from Ukraine.


Poland is in second place, having accepted 977,740 people, or 24% of the total number of refugees. 


The Czech Republic is the next largest country in terms of the number of Ukrainians accepted, having granted asylum to 349,140 people, which is 9% of the total number of refugees.


As of June 30, 2023, women accounted for 46.6% of the total number of Ukrainians granted temporary protection in the EU, children for 34.4%, and men for 19%.
