UZ has announced unplanned changes to international train traffic due to unusual track works on the railway in Hungary between Budapest and Vienna. Restrictions on the routes between Kyiv and Vienna, as well as between Vienna and Chop, will take place from 26 October. Find out more about the routes provided by Hungarian Railways for passengers whose flights will be cancelled/postponed
Ukrainian Railways informs about unplanned changes in the route of some international trains connecting Ukraine and Europe. These changes affect the route of non-stop cars №431, №432 serving the Kyiv-Vienna-Kyiv route, as well as car №430 running on the Vienna-Chop-Vienna route. Due to these restrictions, passengers who have already purchased tickets for these dates have the opportunity to use alternative routes and services provided by the Hungarian railways. We will tell you when the changes will come into effect, what to expect and what alternatives have been devised for passengers.
What changes will be made to the routes and what are the alternatives?
Due to unscheduled track works on the Budapest-Vienna railway in Hungary, direct routes of trains №431 and №432 Kyiv-Vienna-Kyiv and №430 Vienna-Chop-Vienna will not run between Budapest and Vienna, but will be limited to the Budapest-Kelethi station.
According to the official announcement, from October 27 to November 17 departing from Vienna (from October 26 to November 17 for carriage No. 430 Vienna-Chop) and from October 26 to November 16 departing from Kyiv (from October 27 to November 18 for carriage №430 Chop-Vienna), the cars of the mentioned international trains will not run between Budapest and Vienna. This may cause inconvenience for travelers who have already purchased tickets for these dates.
However, Hungarian Railways has taken measures to ensure uninterrupted travel for passengers and organized the following travel arrangements in the event of these route changes.
In the direction of Vienna:
After arriving at Budapest-Kelethi station at 08:20 am, passengers are advised to use the underground (line M4) to get to Budapest-Kölenfeld station.
From Budapest-Köhlenfeld station, buses will depart every 30 minutes to Tatabánya station, which is connected to trains to Vienna. The bus departs from Budapest-Köhlenfeld at 09:10 and arrives at Tatabánya station at 10:10 for the onward departure of the RJX 62 train at 10:26 to Vienna, where it arrives at 12:21.
Bus and train travel is free of charge if you have a ticket to Vienna. If you have a ticket for carriage 430 Chop - Vienna, you can use other seats in the trains Chop - Záhony and Záhony - Budapest with which your carriage was supposed to travel free of charge and then follow the instructions given.

In the direction from Vienna:
Given that the travel time to Budapest (train + bus + metro) will increase, passengers with tickets from Vienna are recommended to start their journey on one of the trains:
• RJX 61 (departure 11:40)
• RJX 63 (departure 13:40)
• EC 145 (departure 12:42)
• EC 147 (departure 14:37)
• RJX 65 (departure 15:42)
These trains will take you to the Tatabánya station in Hungary, where you will be picked up by buses (which are also timed to the arrival of trains) to the Budapest-Kölenfeld station.
After arriving at Budapest-Kölenfeld station, you need to use the subway to get to Budapest-Kelety station. Here, at 19:40, non-stop trains to Kyiv will start running.
Bus and train travel is free if you have a ticket from Vienna. If you have a ticket for carriage 430 Vienna - Chop, you can use this instruction for free, and on the trains Budapest - Záhony and from Záhony to Chop you can use other sitting cars.
When transferring, it is important to take into account the travel time by bus and subway, as well as the suspension of canceled trains between Budapest and Vienna. Passengers can expect a large number of buses in the squares in front of the stations.
Ukrzaliznytsia, in turn, apologizes for any inconvenience that may arise due to the changes in routes. And passengers are advised to consider other destinations for international travel during the repair work in Hungary.
