The Dutch government is preparing to introduce a new rule for Ukrainian refugees, hilversumsnieuws.nl reports.

It is noted that according to the proposed updates, able-bodied persons will have to pay for accommodation in municipal shelters.

Here's what we know about the fees for Ukrainians in reception centers and when the changes are planned to be introduced.

The Netherlands will introduce a new rule for Ukrainian refugees

State Secretary for Refugees Eric van der Burgh has introduced an initiative to introduce mandatory contributions from Ukrainians who have jobs and live in refugee reception centers. The ministry is developing the relevant regulations for municipalities, which are likely to start applying this by the end of this year.

It is emphasized that in the municipality of Hilversum, Ukrainians will soon be asked to make appropriate contributions.

The municipal authorities of Hilversum have decided to offer Ukrainian refugees over the age of 18 to voluntarily pay fees for accommodation. This applies to two reception centers in the city.

"We want to familiarize the residents of the reception centers with the cost of their stay and maintain support in accepting Ukrainians," the council said.

It is noted that so far the fees are voluntary, so no one will check which refugees have paid them. There will also be no consequences for non-payment.

"The displaced persons will receive a letter with this decision and will have the opportunity to make a contribution that corresponds to their budget," the officials explained.
