The Czech police have started active checks of the real place of residence of Ukrainian refugees who have been granted temporary protection in the country. This decision was made in response to an increase in the number of cases of fake residence documents.

As a reminder, on September 1, new rules for providing housing for refugees will come into force in the Czech Republic. Details are available here.

Residence rules for Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic

According to the rules, Ukrainians in the Czech Republic are required to provide information about their current place of residence. Previously, the police were limited to checking documents for forgery, but now law enforcement officers have begun to conduct actual visits to the specified addresses. If a person does not live at the address provided, the information provided is considered false. This can have serious consequences, including the loss of the opportunity to receive financial support from the Czech state.

Given that the Czech Republic is one of the top 3 countries in terms of the number of Ukrainians arriving, and that the period of temporary protection for refugees in this country has been extended until March 4, 2026, the issue of the correctness of the data provided is critical.

Massive document checks in the Czech Republic

According to the head of the Prague Police Department for Foreigners, in the first half of 2024 alone, it was discovered that 1449 people granted temporary protection were not or had never been at the address they had been given. In 2023, a total of 7888 such persons were found in Prague. In all cases, the police proposed to the Department of Asylum and Migration Policy of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic to cancel the residence data.

That is why Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic are strongly advised to follow the rules and provide up-to-date information about their place of residence. This will not only avoid problems with the law, but also provide access to the necessary financial and humanitarian assistance.

We remind you! The Czech authorities have introduced a new type of residence permit for refugees from Ukraine. This type of residence permit is intended for those who wish to stay in the Czech Republic for a longer period. Read more about the conditions for obtaining it in our previous article.
