Ukrainians in Spain can obtain or extend temporary protection, which is valid until 4 March 2025. However, you also need a TIE identity card to live in this country. Find out how to obtain or extend it if you have one
Ukrainians in Spain who have managed to obtain temporary protection face the issue of the need to obtain a TIE card. A TIE card is the main internal identity document for a resident foreigner in Spain.
As you know, in October 2023, the EU authorities decided to extend the temporary protection regime until 4 March 2025. Thus, the maximum three-year period for which it can be granted is coming to an end.
In this regard, Ukrainian citizens who received a residence permit after 4 September 2023 may apply for a TIE card. At the same time, for Ukrainians with temporary protection in Spain who already have this card, it will be extended until 4 March 2025.
How to get a TIE card?
1️⃣ Make an appointment (take a sitka) at the police station by following the link.
You should choose the province to visit the police according to your place of residence. It does not have to be your city - you can choose the police in a neighbouring city, but the main thing is that the police station is located within your province of residence.
2️⃣ To come to the police on the selected date and at the specified address.
To apply for a TIE at the police station, you must:
- have a 32x26 photo (to find where to take a photo, search for fotos para documentos and the name of the city)
- fill in and print the form Tasa modelo 790 012
- pay the fee for Tasa modelo 790 012 at any bank and have a receipt of payment with you
- print and fill in the application form EX-17
- have an identity document with which you applied for temporary protection
- have a document confirming that you have been granted temporary protection - a white sheet with your fingerprints and photo
After your application is accepted, the police will issue you a temporary document valid until the issuance of the TIE card. The card will be issued within a few weeks. You need to pick it up at the same police station where you submitted your application (in some municipalities, you will need to make another appointment). It is not possible to track the readiness of cards online - only call and come to check.
When travelling abroad and returning, you need to take your TIE card with you along with your passport. The absence or expiration of one of the documents may be a reason for refusing to check in for the flight.
