In Austria, from November 1, the rules of travel for citizens of Ukraine are changing. This is due to the fact that the "Not-Ticket Ukraine" program, which has been in effect since the beginning of the war, expires on October 31. This is reported by Krone.

As you know, under the "Not-Ticket Ukraine" program, Ukrainians fleeing the war had only to present their passports for free train travel in Austria and Vienna's transport system.

The new travel conditions have already been announced by the national railway operator (ÖBB) and the Vienna public transport company Wiener Linien.

What will change?

Thus, from November 1, the "Ticket of first arrival from Ukraine" will be valid - it can be obtained by all citizens with a Ukrainian passport who enter Austria (or in transit) from the side of Ukraine through the borders of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary (trains from Brzeclaw, Bratislava or Hedjeshalom to the destination in Austria or to the border stations in the direction of Germany, Switzerland and Italy).

The ticket will be valid only for the first 24 hours from the moment of arrival in Austria. Also - from the date of issue for travel to Austria or border stations in the direction of Germany, Switzerland or Italy in 2nd class on ÖBB trains.

Where to get a "Ticket of first arrival from Ukraine"?

Information about the first arrival is issued by conductors of these trains to Vienna. If refugees cannot find staff on the train or arrive in Austria without a train, a one-time ticket will only be issued at Vienna Central Station (at the entrance to the Sonnwendgasse station) and Graz Central Station (at the ÖBB Tourist Center).

It is noted that the principle of free travel in the first 24 hours will be followed by the city transport of the capital of Austria.

The validity period of the new travel conditions for Ukrainians in Austria

The new rule will be in effect until the end of the year. For further trips, refugees are promised to issue one-time tickets at refugee centers in Vienna.

The authorities are considering the option of introducing special monthly passes for Ukrainian refugees to facilitate their integration and access to the labor market.

The cost of travel tickets in Vienna

There are several types of public transport tickets in the Austrian capital. They are valid in the metro, buses, trams and electric trains within the same zone. For example, you have a pass for one zone, but you need to get to the airport to the second zone. In this case, it is necessary to purchase a ticket for a single trip for one zone for €2.40.

So, the main types of tickets for public transport in Vienna and their cost:

1 Fahrt WIEN is a one-way ticket that costs €2.40. Transfers within the same zone are allowed. When buying a ticket in transport, you will pay €2.60. Look for the name 1 Fahrt WIEN/Single Trip Ticket in the ticket machines.

1 Fahrt WIEN ermäßigt - discount ticket for a child (6-15 years old) for one trip. Its cost is €1.20 (€1.40 if you buy a ticket in transport). Children under the age of 6 travel for free. Children under 15 have the right to travel for free on Sundays, during school holidays and on public holidays.

24-Stunden-Netzkarte – a 24-hour travel ticket that costs €8. It begins to act from the first composting. Choose 24h Stunden Wien/24hour Ticket to buy a ticket from the machine.
