Will there be a nuclear strike on Ukraine: the authorities again started talking about the danger

There are nuclear storage facilities located deep underground. Will there be enough space for everyone? Oleksiy Kuleba, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, answered this question.

HELP

Knowing the chaotic nature of the tactical planning of the russian army, it is impossible to rule out that russian dictator vladimir putin will not order a nuclear strike. Just as, one cannot be sure that such a blow will not be inflicted on Kyiv or the region. However, if it does happen, not everyone will be able to hide in shelters.

As you know, there is a network of nuclear storage facilities in Kyiv. Mostly all of them are located at the right-bank metro stations, which are located deep underground. The network of shelters was built back under the Soviet Union during the Cold War for use as nuclear bunkers. For example, one of the safest shelters is the "Arsenalna" metro station, which is located at a depth of about 105 meters.

What about storage facilities in the Kyiv region?

As Oleksiy Kuleba, the head of the Kyiv regional military administration, said, an additional 425 shelters are being prepared in the region for those who live outside the city. Now they are equipped with food, water and radio equipment.

There is not enough space for everyone

According to Kuleba, there will not be room for everyone in the warehouses. At the same time, according to safety rules, shelters will be closed five minutes before any expected explosion.

Such a step will protect people who are already in shelter.

How to understand what you need to prepare for?

Head of the Department of Emergency Preparedness and Radiation Control of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety in Kyiv, Yulia Balashevka, commented in the Washington Post that the chances of survival near the epicenter of the explosion are small.

However, without knowing the size of the nuclear device that might be used or where it might hit, it's hard to know what to prepare for.

The damage zone in the event of an attack on Kyiv

Balashevka explains that the smallest russian tactical nuclear device dropped in the center of Kyiv will not affect large areas of the city. A larger device would have a much more destructive impact.

In any case, there is hope! Even with a larger bomb, there would be a gap of 5 to 15 minutes between the shock wave and the fallout, giving survivors of the initial blast time to take cover.

Note that earlier we talked about how to prepare to survive a nuclear explosion and how to act afterwards.
