Ukrainians in the Czech Republic will be able to stay in the country for another year. The country's Senate extended temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine until the end of March 2024.

However, these are not all the changes that await our compatriots in the Czech Republic. We tell you what other changes will come into effect in 2023.

Extension of temporary protection status for Ukrainians in the Czech Republic

If you plan to stay in the country, you need to renew the relevant status. It's easy to do:

• register online;

• receive an invitation to visit the center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where a special visa sticker will be affixed to you.

Pay attention! Registration for extension of temporary status is open until March 31, 2023. After registration, the Ukrainian will be assigned a date for a visit to the center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to stick a special visa sticker in the foreign passport. Ukrainians who do not register by the specified date by the end of September 2023 or who do not appear for a visa after registration will lose their temporary protection status.

By the way, temporary protection allows Ukrainians in the Czech Republic to use state health insurance, education and the labor market.

How Ukrainians can extend temporary protection in the Czech Republic: detailed instructions

The new online registration platform for the extension of temporary protection will be launched no earlier than January 24, 2023. You can register until March 31, 2023. If you don't register by the end of March, your temporary protection will expire.

When registering online, reserve a date for a personal visit to a branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Confirmation of registration will be sent to your e-mail.

By registering and reserving a specific term, your temporary protection will be extended until September 30, 2023. In this way, you will have enough time to come to our office on the predetermined date to receive the visa sticker.

Pay attention! On the date you chose during online registration, you must personally arrive at the branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

You must have the following documents with you:

• a valid international passport, if you are its owner, or another document certifying your identity, if you do not have a valid international passport.

• confirmation of residence (confirmation is not required if you live in a social shelter provided by the state or you issued temporary protection after June 27, 2022 and have not changed your place of residence since then),

• documents confirming your authority to represent a person under the age of 18 on his behalf.

After arriving at the Ministry of Internal Affairs with all the necessary documents, a visa sticker will be affixed to you. This will extend your temporary protection until March 31, 2024.

Free housing for refugees in the Czech Republic

This year's changes will also apply to the possibility of living in the country without paying for housing. In order to motivate Ukrainians to get a job and rent a house on their own, the Czech Republic decided to reduce the period of free residence.

From April, it will be 150 days, at the end of which you must either pay the rent or move to another accommodation.

It is emphasized that refugees who will rent housing will receive a cash payment.

What other changes await Ukrainians in the Czech Republic in 2023?

According to the approved amendment, refugees from Ukraine will have simplified access to psychological assistance. The rules for admitting children to kindergartens and school attendance rules will also change from the next academic year.

In addition, the child can be expelled from the preschool institution according to a simplified procedure if he and his parents returned to Ukraine, and the family did not inform the kindergarten management about this.

New center for refugees from Ukraine in Prague

Recently, the center for assistance to displaced persons in Prague moved to new premises. Every Ukrainian can get advice or help here:

• a psychologist;

• lawyer;

• doctor;

• an employment consultant.

In addition, there is a space for young people and children, and there is also an opportunity to take the necessary things.

From now on, the help center is open at the following address: Novákových street 1954/20a, Praha 8-Libeň district near the metro station "V Palmovka".

Working hours: Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Pay attention! If you registered for a visit to the old support center, you need to re-register for a visit at the new address.

We will remind you that we previously wrote that the Czech Republic changed the rules of stay for Ukrainian refugees and reduced the amount of monetary assistance. More about this at the link.

Remember! An insurance policy is a guarantee of your safety and peaceful stay outside of Ukraine. In order to protect yourself from troubles abroad and to be calm for yourself and your loved ones, Visit Ukraine recommends not to delay and take out insurance online.
