What is known about Welcome Corps - a program to help Ukrainians in the USA?
The purpose of Welcome Corps is to create sponsoring groups. Under this program, at least five US citizens can create a sponsor group to support Ukrainians fleeing war in the US.
The US State Department plans to support at least 5,000 refugees during the first year of the program, attracting 10,000 sponsors.
What is the role of sponsors in the Welcome Corps program?
A group of Americans wishing to sponsor Ukrainians must meet several requirements, namely:
• Collect the set amount of money - 2,275 dollars for each refugee;
• provide your biographical data for verification;
• to develop a plan according to which support to Ukrainians is planned.
Basic assistance must be provided within the first 90 days after taking Ukrainians under patronage.
Migrants will be helped to find and obtain:
• housing;
• food;
• medical services;
• educational services;
• benefits from the state.
Special sessions will be held with potential sponsors starting on January 26.
How can Ukrainians find shelter in the USA?
Currently, refugees from Ukraine can go to the United States under the Uniting For Ukraine program, which guarantees a simplified entry procedure to the country. At the same time, it is worth remembering that Ukrainians who:
• Lived in Ukraine until February 11, 2022 and left the country due to the invasion of Russia;
• have a Ukrainian passport;
• found a sponsor in the United States who can submit a Declaration of Financial Support (Form I-134) approved by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS);
• vaccinated and have complied with all the country's health requirements;
• passed security checks, including biometric and biographical checks.
The United States of America also supports Ukrainian pensioners. They will be able to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) if they arrived in the country after the outbreak of full-scale war. The simultaneous stay of visitors in the hotel lobby not more than one person per 10 square meters of serviceable area is allowed.
Persons can visit hotels and stay there (outside hotel room) only if they wear respirator or face mask (including homemade mask), so that the nose and mouth are covered.
Hotel guests are obliged to keep the 1.5 meters distance.
Online check-in making in advance is recommended to avoid queues at check-in to hotel.
