Canada is waiting for 90 thousand more Ukrainians: details
The Ministry of Refugees and Citizenship of Canada, together with the Operation Ukraine Safe Haven group, conducted a survey and expect another 90 thousand Ukrainians to arrive in Canada by the deadline.
Sarosh Rizvi, CEO of Operation Ukraine Safe Haven, said that a significant increase in the number of new arrivals is expected in the coming period compared to previous months. He emphasized that the level of public support for Ukrainians in Canada has significantly decreased, and therefore various organizations, including Operation Ukraine Safe Haven, play an important role in this context. This trend may affect the growth of the flow of immigrants seeking asylum in Canada.
Where will Ukrainians be resettled?
Accommodation facilities are preparing for a massive influx of people by checking the availability of rooms in hotels and food banks. It is expected that newcomers will settle in small towns where it is easier to find housing.
Finding housing for everyone will be quite difficult. Refugees will be offered accommodation in small towns.
Those who have received special CUAET visas are allowed to come to Canada after March 31. However, they are not eligible for a three-year work and study permit under the program.
In addition, these individuals will not be able to receive financial support or resettlement assistance. Such conditions are determined by the program's restrictions and are regulated by the conditions for obtaining special CUAET visas in accordance with the Canadian government's policy.
As you know, since March 2022, the Government of Canada has already issued more than 936 thousand emergency temporary visas to Ukrainians who are looking for work or want to study in Canada. Of these, more than 210 thousand Ukrainians have already arrived in Canada with CUAET visas as of the end of November 2023.
