Ukrainians occupy a significant position in the European Union labor market, but this process is happening at different rates and with different intensity in different countries. However, some countries are particularly attractive for Ukrainian workers. Find out more about which European countries employ the most Ukrainians
Ukrainians continue to actively join the labor market in Europe, especially where they are granted temporary protection. However, despite integration and training programs, only 25% of Ukrainian refugees in Germany have successfully entered the labor market, Bild reports.
Ukrainians in Europe: how many refugees have found work abroad
Germany, which has hosted the largest number of Ukrainian refugees in Europe - more than 1 million people - is trying to integrate them into the workforce. However, even despite these efforts, the share of employed refugees lags behind other EU countries. For example, in Germany, only 25.2% of refugees of working age are employed.
In other EU countries, the situation with employment of Ukrainians is as follows:
• Czech Republic - 66%;
• Poland - 65%;
• Denmark - 78%;
• Sweden - 56%;
• Great Britain - 50%;
• Netherlands - 50%.
Although Ukrainian refugees have the right to work in all EU countries, there are differences in social assistance systems. For example, in the countries with the largest number of Ukrainians, support looks like this:
Germany
Civilian assistance amounts to 563 euros per month, for children - from 357 to 471 euros, as well as housing and additional expenses.
Czech Republic
200 euros of emergency assistance and 130 euros after 5 months, but health insurance and living expenses are covered only for 5 months.
Poland
A one-time payment of 66 euros and 184 euros per child per month, after 4 months refugees have to pay half of the cost of collective living.
Please note! To ensure a safe stay abroad, you should take care of reliable health insurance in advance, which will not only help you maintain your health, but also protect you from unforeseen expenses. You can take out an insurance policy that covers emergency medical care in case of illnesses and accidents, as well as inpatient and outpatient care around the world on the Visit Ukraine website. In addition, on our portal, you can immediately apply for car insurance - the Green Card, which is mandatory in 50 countries, including the EU.

Why does the number of unemployed Ukrainians remain high?
Political scientist Dietrich Trenhardt points out that one of the reasons for the low employment rate of Ukrainians in Germany is their high qualifications, as 72% of refugees have a university degree. It is worth noting that the process of recognizing their diplomas takes a long time, especially for doctors or pharmacists. However, in Italy and Slovakia, they have been allowed to work in the healthcare system since March 2022.
Another important problem is the lack of language skills among Ukrainian refugees. Experts hope that in a few months the situation will change thanks to language courses and other integration measures.
We remind you! The European Union has hosted more than 4 million Ukrainian refugees since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Despite the large number of IDPs, EU countries continue to accept citizens in need.
