The Norwegian Refugee Council plans to close the last round-the-clock reception center for refugees from Ukraine at the Warsaw East railway station, oko.press reports.

Please note! To ensure a safe stay abroad, you should take care of reliable health insurance in advance, which will not only help you maintain your health, but also protect you from unforeseen expenses. You can take out an insurance policy that covers emergency medical care in case of illnesses and accidents, as well as inpatient and outpatient care around the world on the Visit Ukraine website. In addition, on our portal, you can immediately apply for car insurance - the Green Card, which is mandatory in 50 countries, including the EU.

According to him, the liquidation of the center will lead to the fact that newcomers will not be able to receive medical care, a place to sleep and food.

The last refugee aid center at Warsaw East Station will soon be closed

According to the Norwegan Refugee Council, the closure of the reception center, scheduled for February 20, 2024, could lead to difficulties for thousands of people in need of assistance. This center has been instrumental in providing food, medical care and overnight accommodation for thousands of refugees arriving in Warsaw.

The majority of refugees in need of assistance arrive at Warszawa Wschodnia railway station from the occupied territories via russia, and then through Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus.

Since March 2022, this center has served more than 100,000 refugees, most of whom are elderly people, women with children, the sick and the injured. The closure of the center could leave these people without the necessary help and support.

Volunteers from organizations such as the Asymmetrists have already expressed their outrage and concern about this situation. They emphasized that the center should have been open at least until the end of May 2024, as Warsaw is a key transit point for refugees from the frontline areas and the occupied regions.

"We cannot stop helping. Buses will continue to arrive at Warszawa Wschodnia. Volunteer groups are helping at stations in Germany, Norway and Finland. And in Warsaw, there is no longer a voivodeship or reception center. There is only us," says Kajetan Wróblewski, an activist of the Asymmetrists organization.

According to him, the liquidation of the center will lead to the fact that newcomers will not be able to receive medical care, a place to sleep and food.

It is also important to keep in mind that many non-governmental organizations are working to help refugees move to the West, providing them not only with physical assistance but also with psychological support.  A whole network of volunteers from various organizations has been created that can evacuate entire families from the frontline, for example, to Germany or Norway.

Depending on the situation at the front, the number of evacuation buses with refugees ranges from seven (for example, after the russians blew up a dam in Nova Kakhovka) to 3 per week. Each of them carries an average of 50 people.

"Everyone gets off at the Wschodnia station, exhausted, hungry, injured, often in need of immediate medical care. Most have no money, especially those from the occupation," the volunteer emphasizes.

We remind you! Earlier, the Polish government extended temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees and set new terms of legal stay. The decision was made in the context of continuing support and protection for Ukrainian citizens who were forced to seek asylum.
