The Zhytomyr region offers tourists a large number of unique places where they can spend a weekend and have fun.

Visit Ukraine's editorial team watched YouTube videos by bloggers Max Uzol and Olya Manko and created a selection of the best places in Zhytomyr region for your travels.

Stay with us, and we will tell you the whole truth about Druzhbivsky Quarry and its worthy alternatives, the story of a guy who managed to save an abandoned palace and a fisherman's house that will take you to a real fairy tale!

Druzhba quarry

In the conditions of the closed coast, Druzhbivskyi quarry is rapidly gaining popularity. And this is not surprising, because this place really resembles the paradise Maldives! Many tourists come here just for the sake of attractive shots.

There are clay deposits at the bottom of the reservoir, so the water here is clear and truly turquoise, and the mounds of sand and clay resemble the Turkish resort of Pamukkale.

We advise you to come to Druzhbivskyi quarry with a tent, the sunsets combined with the turquoise pond and sandy cliffs are simply amazing!

Unfortunately, the infrastructure at Druzhba Quarry is not equipped, so take care of buying food and changing clothes in advance. Due to the enormous popularity of the location, it is very crowded on the shores. Therefore, if possible, it is better to come here on weekdays.

Olya Manko's personal recommendation is to rent a catamaran and go for a walk along the water surface. This is the only way to fully experience the grandeur and scale of this unique place!

Rudnia-Zamyslovatska village

Kamynne Selo is a real Ukrainian Stonehenge, which is located 15 km from Druzhbivskyi quarry. This is a geological reserve, which is a scattering of large stone blocks in the forest. These giant stones seemed to have magically grown in the middle of the forest on a flat area. This massif is over two billion years old. The depth of the granite stones is more than two kilometers.

The origin of this reserve is still unknown. According to one version, the boulders were brought here by a glacier, according to another, they are the remains of rocks that used to be here. The locals also have various legends about this place. There is a belief that God punished the village because one of the villagers did not give him bread when he appeared before him as a vagrant.

The most interesting specimens have their own names and have plaques in front of them: "God's Stone" with a footprint, "Broken Loaf," "Lovers' Stones," "Pyramid Stone."

There is another interesting place in this village - Sokolivsky quarry, which can be a great alternative to Druzhbivsky quarry. Its depth reaches 110 meters, so divers can often be found here.

Denyshi village

This village is located 20 km from Zhytomyr on the banks of the Teteriv River.

The Teteriv Canyon is an amazing place, the grandeur and scale of which is simply breathtaking! Tourists are rarely seen here, so you can relax your body and soul, admire nature and enjoy the tranquility. It is used as a climbing wall for training climbers, who are usually based in the nearby Denyshi sanatorium. There are more than 40 routes of varying difficulty. On the opposite side of the river is an oak grove with centuries-old oaks.

Another interesting place is the ruins of the Tereshchenko Palace. This is a giant mansion with 40 rooms that was looted after the October Revolution. Despite the severe damage, the walls of the palace still retain traces of rich stucco decorations and luxury.

The village of Staryi Solotvyn

In this village you will find a picturesque hut in the middle of the river on the island of Love. It is a real magnet for romantic photo shoots. This place is a true embodiment of romance, because the house seems to have been transferred from a fairy tale, and it looks fantastic among the trees.

The island is of artificial origin and was created back in 1970. Local fishermen and hunters built a hut on it and laid a wooden bridge. Recently, local activists have built a Ukrainian-style house, and sometimes they even hold master classes in folk crafts.

You can come here at any time of the year, but we recommend taking pictures at dawn, when there are fewer visitors.

Chervone village

The last recommendation is more about the people than the place. Uzol and Manko introduced the audience to Taras Konovalov. The man created an NGO to preserve the palace and popularize his native village.

Here you can admire the Grokholsky-Tereshchenko estate, which was built in 1851 in the Neo-Gothic style. Under the pressure of the Russian Empire, Grokholskyi's wife was forced to sell the palace to the Tereshchenkos, who then opened numerous factories in the village, including an aircraft factory.

Currently, the religious organization of the Nativity of Christ and a nunnery are located here. A unique feature of the palace is the Tereshchenko family's own home theater, which once hosted prominent opera singers.

We remind you! The Carpathians are famous for their rich natural landscapes, clean air, sonorous waterfalls, mineral water springs and clear rivers. Fantastic nature and well-developed infrastructure make it an ideal place for hiking. Read more about which routes are the most popular among tourists.
