After martial law was imposed in Ukraine, men of mobilisation age cannot leave the country without permission. However, citizens go to illegal lengths to cross the border and pay staggering amounts of money to do so. Find out how much money some Ukrainians are willing to give to escape the country
Ukrainian citizens are taking desperate steps to avoid mobilisation, including illegal border crossings. In most cases, citizens use the services of "curators" to escape abroad, who allegedly provide them with ways to leave the country bypassing border guards. Ukrainians pay huge sums of money for this, sometimes the amounts seem shocking.
According to Andriy Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, who spoke at the telethon, border guards have recently seen more daring attempts by criminal groups to bring groups of people to the border. According to him, it is mostly about 10-30 people. However, there was also a record of about 47 fugitives.
He explains that criminal groups help to move such groups of people closer to the border, and then can divide them into smaller groups.
"Our task is to prevent attempts to illegally cross the border, and this is Ukraine's responsibility to the countries with which we border," Demchenko said.

How much do people pay to travel abroad?
The State Border Guard Service said that violators are willing to pay significant sums for escape, ranging from $3,000 to $12,000, and sometimes even more.
There are cases when border guards find out that violators have paid as much as $18,000 and $20,000.
"In fact, instead of supporting Ukraine and the Defence Forces of our country, people continue to enrich criminal groups," said Demchenko.
We remind you! The new law on mobilisation introduced changes to the rules of border crossing for men. Read here to find out which categories of men can leave Ukraine without hindrance and what documents they need to have.
