Russia attacked Kyiv, Dnipro and Krivoy Rog with missiles: hospital destroyed, many dead
Ukraine has suffered one of the largest missile strikes since the start of a full-scale war. Russian missiles damaged and destroyed residential buildings, a children's hospital and a maternity hospital. Learn about the consequences of the attack on Ukrainian infrastructure
On the morning of 8 July, the russian army launched one of the most massive missile attacks on Kyiv since the beginning of the war. A few minutes after the air alert was issued, the skyline of the Ukrainian capital was engulfed in black smoke from the air attack. The strike damaged residential apartment blocks and the Okhmatdyt children's hospital, which specialises in treating seriously ill children.
In total, the russian army used 38 missiles to fire on Ukraine, including the Iskander, Kinzhal and the latest Zircon hypersonic missile.
Destruction of Okhmatdyt
According to already known data, the hospital was struck by an X-101 cruise missile launched by one of the occupier's strategic bombers.
A direct hit on one of the hospital's buildings led to the almost complete destruction of a number of departments, including the operating theatre and intensive care unit. Two surgeries were underway at the time of the shelling.
The hospital has already reported two deaths - both adults, one of them a doctor.
Health Minister Viktor Lyashko said that the building of the Centre for Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, located on the territory of Okhmatdyt, where three heart surgeries were taking place at the time, was damaged. According to him, the explosion damaged windows, contaminated the chest cavity of patients, and now they are trying to save the children in other medical institutions.
8 out of 10 Kyiv districts felt the effects of the attack
Damage to civilian infrastructure was observed in almost all districts of Kyiv after the morning attack. In particular, a maternity hospital was damaged in the Dnipro district of the capital. Seven people died there.
And in the Syrtsy district, the enemy destroyed an entire entrance of a residential building. People can be heard screaming under the rubble. The rescue operation is ongoing.
What other consequences were recorded in the city:
- in Holosiivskyi - a kindergarten and a residential building were damaged, cars are burning;
- in Solomensky district, an office building with residential floors was damaged;
- in Dniprovskyi district - debris was burning in a residential building;
- a private house was damaged in Darnytskyi district;
- in Sviatoshynskyi district, debris was burning near a residential building, and a fire broke out in the premises of an enterprise;
- a house caught fire in Desnianskyi district.

Strike on Kryvyi Rih
During the same morning attack, russian terrorists launched rocket attacks not only on Kyiv, but also on the Dnipropetrovs'k region, in particular, on Kryvyi Rih.
As a result of the attack, 10 people were killed and 47 others were injured.
Strike on the Dnipro
The city of Dnipro was also attacked by russians, where a man was killed in the strike. Six people were also injured, one of whom is in serious condition.
A multi-storey building and a business were damaged in the city.
Ukraine convenes the UN Security Council
In response to russia's massive attack on Okhmatdyt and a medical facility in the Dnipro district of the capital, Ukraine is convening an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a briefing with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw.
The head of state also promised that Ukraine would "definitely respond to the non-humans from russia".
