In Germany, the authorities are proposing to cancel financial assistance for some refugees from Ukraine. We will tell you who may be deprived of assistance and how close this decision is to being made.

The proposal to cut aid for Ukrainians came from the Secretary General of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, Carsten Linnemann. He said this in an interview with Funke.

Who is it proposed to cut aid to?

It should be noted that Linnemann proposed to cancel the benefits for Ukrainians who do not work officially.

According to the politician, in Germany, "a six-figure number of people are fundamentally unwilling to work". In his opinion, the state should assume that they need help.

"Reducing payments by 10, 20 or 30 per cent is not enough. It is necessary to completely cancel basic assistance," the opposition politician said.

According to Linnemann, Germany needs a policy change. He noted that he wants "a fair social support system, and the basic income is unfair now".

He added that the German authorities need to find out why in many European countries more than 50 per cent of Ukrainians work, while in Germany only 25 per cent do. He believes that there is a clear lack of incentives to get to work quickly.

Linnemann stressed that Ukrainians defend the freedom of Germans, but at the same time, he believes that if there is help, it is linked to reciprocal actions, including employment.

Should Ukrainians be worried?

It is important to emphasise that this is only a formal proposal by a representative of a German political party. So far, the issue is not on the agenda, so its possible adoption is quite far away.

Assistance for Ukrainian refugees in Germany

As you know, in Germany, payments for able-bodied refugees are made through employment centres, providing them with support.

This year, able-bodied refugees registered with employment centres can receive monthly payments of EUR 563

We remind you! Ukrainians with temporary protection in Germany can visit Ukraine, but in order not to lose their benefits, they must comply with the rules on the duration of the trip and some other requirements.
