The Olympic Games in Paris have passed the equator and are reaching the finish line. Ukraine, despite an unsuccessful start was able to improve its position in the medal standings. On the results of the Ukrainians and other national teams tell in this material.

Ukraine at the Olympics: won and potential medals 

The Ukrainian national team came to Paris with the smallest squad in the history of its independence. 140 athletes went to the Olympics.

The start of the Ukrainians did not start in the best way, but closer to the middle of the Games the athletes managed to win several medals. They have already received awards:

Yaroslava Maguchikh - gold

Olga Kharlan, Elena Kravatskaya, Alina Komashchuk and Yulia Bakastova (fencing team) - gold medals

Sergey Kulish (shooting, rifle shooting from three positions at a distance of 50 metres) - silver

Ilya Kovtun (artistic gymnastics. parallel bars) - silver medal

Olga Kharlan (sabre fencing, individual championship) - bronze.

Irina Gerashchenko (track and field athletics, high jump) - bronze medal

Mykhailo Kohan (athletics, hammer throw) - bronze.

Thus, the Ukrainians were able to take medals in seven disciplines. 

However, Ukrainian athletes have a chance to improve their performance. For example, already on 7 August boxer Oleksandr Khizhnyak will hold the final bout, where he will fight for the gold medal with a representative of Kazakhstan.

Also Ukrainian athletes will participate in disciplines until 10 August. Therefore, there are chances to win additional medals.

Medal count for the Olympics-2024

There are winning countries in the Olympics. These are the nations that have won the greatest number of gold medals. As a rule, the medal standings at the Olympic Games are won by countries that send more representatives to the competition. China and the United States usually take the top spots at the Olympics.

The Paris Olympics don't seem to come as a surprise, as Chinese and American athletes already occupy the top of the medal standings by a wide margin. Here's how it looks like:

1. China - 21 gold, 18 silver, 14 bronze medals (54 in total)

2. USA - 20 gold, 30 silver, 28 bronze (78 medals in total)

3. Australia - 13 gold, 11 silver, 8 bronze (32 total)

The host of the tournament France also shows a good result and is only one medal behind Australia. Ukraine, in turn, is in 18th place.

World records at the Olympic Games in Paris

Competitions in France are not without interesting sporting events. Two world records have already been set at the ongoing games.

The first - the USA track and field team in the 4x400 metre mixed relay showed a result of 3:07.41, which is the best result in history, beating the previous record by 1.39 seconds.

Second - Swedish track and field athlete Armaan Duplantis broke the world record in the pole vault. Duplantis managed to jump the bar at 6.25 metres. The previous record of 6.24 metres also belonged to the Swedish track and field athlete.
