Currently, the amount of fines for traffic violations in the EU varies from country to country. However, this may soon change. Find out more about the introduction of unified fines and their benefits
The amount of administrative penalties imposed on drivers in the form of fines varies across Europe. However, the German police union has recently emphasised the importance of introducing a single fine level in the EU. What is known today is described in the article below.
Uniform fines in Europe for traffic violations
Trans.info reports that the German police union has called different fines in EU countries a kind of discrimination. That is why they are calling for the introduction of a unified penalty system for all drivers travelling on European roads.
‘With a common list of fines, we can consistently enforce traffic rules and improve road safety across national borders,’ said Jochen Kopelke, the federal chairman of the police union.
The relevant letters and appeals have already been drafted and will be sent to the EU authorities.
The fact that fines differ from country to country is not only unfair, but also quite inconvenient for drivers. For example, in Denmark, fines directly depend on the salary of the offenders, while in Poland and Greece fines are fixed, but the difference between the same offences in these countries reaches almost three hundred euros.
This initiative will also be convenient for drivers, as travellers will be aware of the unified fines in advance, which will not cause misunderstandings.
The authorities have not yet commented on this issue or made a decision on it.
Remember that compliance with traffic rules is a guarantee of safety not only for the driver but also for other road users. Before travelling to European countries, you should study the main provisions of the SDA.

In addition, in order to legally drive your own car on European roads, every driver of a vehicle with Ukrainian registration needs to take out a Green Card compulsory insurance policy.
The Green Card is a compulsory insurance policy that guarantees reliable protection abroad. It provides coverage for damages caused to other road users in the event of an accident.
If you have a Green Card, the insurance company will indemnify you for any damage that may be caused abroad by a car that has the policy. It's important to remember that damage caused to third parties is covered, but the coverage does not apply to the person responsible for the accident. This means that if you hit someone else's car abroad, the insurance company will pay money to the other party to the accident, not you.
On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can buy a Green Card from a licensed insurer. Packages are available for different periods from 15 days to 1 year for cars and trucks, trailers and semi-trailers for trucks, as well as motorcycles and scooters.
Remember. An accident can happen at the most unexpected moment, either on the way to work or while travelling. However, people experience even more stress when they get into an accident outside their home country. Here how to act in the event of a road traffic accident abroad and how to get compensation.
