Ethnographic complex ‘Ukrainian Village’

The founders of the ethnographic complex say that their goal is to revive love for Ukraine, its history, culture and art, legends and folklore. The task is to develop the spirituality of the Ukrainian people.

The complex was founded by Volodymyr Bondarenko, who was a member of the Ukrainian parliament for a long time. During his work, he realised that representing the interests of citizens was not enough for effective work and decided to revive the ancient traditions in practice.

Next to the complex is an Orthodox church built in honour of the Great Martyr Dmitry of Thessalonica. It was also founded by Volodymyr Bondarenko as a way of thanking God for saving him during an attempt on his life.

The Ukrainian Village Museum of Folk Architecture and Life also operates here.

The ethnographic complex reflects the essence of a small village, its unique beauty and identity. If you want to touch history in real villages, you can find something interesting here.

Korets Castle

The castle is classified as an architectural monument of Ukraine, located in the city of Korets, Rivne region. Currently, the castle is almost destroyed, but visitors can see fragments of fortifications. Some of them are in a state of disrepair, but the viaduct leading through the castle moat to the fortress was restored in 2005.

It is said that Fedir Ostrozkyi started building the castle over the Korchyk River. It was a fortification surrounded by a deep moat on three sides and a river on the west.

Later, the fortress was rebuilt and given a palatial appearance. This is exactly what we can see today when visiting Korets Castle.

Brody

A small ‘free’ city located in the eastern part of the Lviv region. It got its name from the marshland and the crossings through it. From history textbooks, it is known to us as ‘Lyubych’, and jokers call it ‘Galician Jerusalem’.

You can stay here for a long time, because the city itself is a historical and architectural landmark. It was mentioned back in 1096, during the times of Kyivan Rus.

Where can you visit?

Visit the Brody Museum of History and Local Lore in an old townhouse on Svobody Square (the city centre), go to the Brody Gymnasium (built in 1865, it is a beautiful example of Ukrainian classicism), don't forget to include Brody Castle, built by Stanisław Koniecpolski in 1630-1635, and join the tours of the Tyshkevych Palace, which was built in the traditional English style.

If you're interested in the history of small Ukrainian towns, you should definitely choose an object from this list for your itinerary .
