What about the power system and blackouts? We have collected forecasts and comments
Ukraine's power grid has suffered the largest attack since the start of the war, resulting in serious damage and emergency blackouts. Find out what are the prospects for restoring power supply and what to expect in the coming weeks
On August 26, russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, which the President of Ukraine called one of the largest since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The country was attacked by more than a hundred missiles of various types and about a hundred Shaheds. In particular, the Kyiv hydroelectric power plant in Vyshhorod and other energy infrastructure facilities in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovs'k, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Khmelnytsky, and Chernihiv regions were hit.
We told you earlier where to check the power outage schedules in different regions of Ukraine.
Official comments: situation assessment and restoration work
Strict restrictions on electricity consumption may last for 1-2 weeks until the damaged distribution systems are repaired. This was reported by the President of the All-Ukrainian Energy Assembly Ivan Plachkov. According to him, the attack was aimed at achieving a total blackout, but the power engineers were able to respond quickly and avoid this scenario.
Official sources confirm that this was the largest attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, but do not yet give specific forecasts for damage restoration. Deputy Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said on the air of the National Telethon that damage assessment is still ongoing, and power engineers are carrying out emergency repairs where possible. At the same time, she emphasized that the situation is difficult but remains under control.
Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal added that russia had used cluster missiles to attack Ukraine's substations for the first time, causing serious damage to power facilities. Although scheduled power outages were supposed to be avoided this week, the impact of the missile strikes forced emergency blackouts to maintain the stability of the power system.

Power shortages and emergency outages
Ukrenergo also confirmed the fact of the largest-scale attack and reported a power shortage due to damage to key facilities. In this regard, the company is carrying out emergency repairs and is also forced to introduce emergency power outages. YASNO CEO Serhiy Kovalenko also warned that the situation remains difficult and further attacks could lead to even more widespread outages.
Restoration of the distribution systems may take several weeks, which implies strict restrictions on electricity consumption and possible emergency outages in addition to the HOS (hourly outage schedules). Nevertheless, the energy sector is working to minimize these consequences and restore stability to the country's power system.
We remind you! Power outages cause a lot of inconvenience for Ukrainians, especially for those who work remotely and need to be constantly connected. Read how to find places with generators in your city using special maps to recharge your phone or work.
