You can sell a car in Ukraine even if the owner of the vehicle is abroad. Find out more about how to sell a car if its owner is not in the country and what you need to do
It is quite possible to sell a car when the owner is abroad. To do this, you need to issue a power of attorney to another person who will act on your behalf during the sale. We will tell you how to do this and what you need to sell a car in this article.
How to sell a car in Ukraine if the owner is abroad: an algorithm of actions
First of all, you need to issue a power of attorney. To do this, the car owner should contact the Ukrainian consulate or notary in the country of residence with a passport, identification code and vehicle registration certificate.
The power of attorney must clearly state the powers of the attorney-in-fact. He or she must have the right to sell the car, deregister it, and receive the proceeds from the sale.
The power of attorney must also be apostilled - a special stamp that confirms the legalisation of the document for use in Ukraine.
After that, the original document should be handed over to the trustee in Ukraine. If the power of attorney is not in Ukrainian, it must be translated and notarised in Ukraine.
Once all the necessary steps have been taken, the proxy can act on behalf of the owner.
However, keep in mind that in order to sell a car, in addition to the power of attorney, you need the passport of the attorney, the vehicle passport (registration certificate) and the sale and purchase agreement.
The validity of the power of attorney is specified by the owner. Make sure that the validity period is sufficient to carry out all the necessary procedures.
Important! All formalities for re-registering a car are carried out at a service centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
If you plan to sell your car for the first time in a year, no tax will be charged.
However, if this is the second vehicle you plan to sell in a year, you must contact the service centre and pay the relevant taxes.
