A personal car is always a responsibility. And the issue of car insurance is the first thing every driver should take care of before getting behind the wheel. Find out how Mini Hull Insurance for car can help you if you already have a “motor citizen”
In Ukraine, every car owner is required to have a policy of compulsory motor third party liability insurance (MTPL), or “motor citizen” in common parlance. This policy provides protection in the event that the driver causes a traffic accident. However, many drivers ask themselves: do I need an additional hull insurance policy if I already have MTPL? Visit Ukraine advises the majority of drivers in Ukraine.
What does MTPL cover?
MTPL is a type of insurance that covers damage caused to third parties in an accident. That is, if you cause an accident, your MTPL policy will reimburse the repair of the damaged car of another person and/or compensate the victim for damages. However, this type of insurance does not cover damage to your car or expenses for your own health in the event of an accident. And this is a significant limitation that many drivers ignore until an insured event occurs.
You can readabout the prices for CTP insurance in our previous article.
What does hull insurance cover?
Mini Hull is a voluntary insurance that protects your car from a variety of risks. There is also a separate Mini Hull policy, which is more economical and includes (depending on the chosen package: economy, basic or maximum + military risks):
- Damage as a result of an accident, even if you are involved in an accident and are at fault, the CTP will not cover the cost of repairing your car. Mini Hull will cover these costs.
- Car theft or stealing. MTPL does not include coverage in case of car theft, while the corresponding Mini Hull package provides full or partial compensation for the cost of the car.
- Natural disasters and fires. Mini Hull protects your car in case of damage from bad weather, such as hail, storm, or fire, if it is stipulated by the chosen insurance package.
- Vandalism, hooliganism. If your car was damaged intentionally by other persons, Mini Hull will cover the repair or replacement of damaged parts.
Mini Hull Economy package covers only damages caused to your car in the event of an accident in the presence of another party to the event.
Mini Hull Basic package covers losses in the event of an accident in the presence of another party to the event, as well as in case of complete destruction of the vehicle as a result of a natural disaster.
Mini Hull Maximum + war risks package covers losses in the event of an accident in the presence of another party to the event, indemnifies for the complete destruction of the vehicle as a result of a natural disaster, and also indemnifies for the destruction of the car in case of passive war risks. The compensation also includes tow truck services.

Why do I need a Mini Hull Insurance for car even if I have MTPL?
Having only a compulsory MTPL policy, your car is left without protection in case of damage for which the driver is responsible.
Please note! Even if you are a very careful driver, there are many circumstances on the road that you cannot influence. For example, the actions of other road users, natural disasters, or even car theft.
Mini Hull Insurance compensates for the cost of repairing or even replacing the car, which provides financial peace of mind. The main thing that attracts drivers to Mini Hull is the coverage of cases when you are to blame for an accident and your car needs repair.
When is a Mini Hull Insurance policy mandatory?
A Mini Hull policy is also required when conducting financial transactions with a car. For example, when it comes to lending or leasing, lenders require Mini Hull Insurance, so in this case it is mandatory.

What insurance to use in case of an accident if you have both MTPL and Mini Hull
If you are the culprit of a traffic accident and have caused damage to another car, then apply for compensation under CTPCI. The injured party will receive compensation and will not have any claims against you.
However, if you also have a Mini Hull policy, it is important to apply for compensation under this insurance if your car is damaged.
By itself, the Mini Hull policy has 2 options for compensation: direct monetary compensation or repair. The amount of monetary compensation is determined by the insurer's expertise. If the contract specifies repairs, the car will be sent to a service station, which is also determined by the insurance company.
Conclusion - if you have two policies, the financial risks in any accident are minimal.
