Key changes in employment
One of the key decisions was the abolition of the need to obtain a permit from the authorities of the respective canton for Ukrainians with S status who have found a job. Previously, this permit could be paid for and delay the process of official employment. Now Ukrainians will be able to enter the labor market faster and more easily.
In addition, the possibility of changing the place of residence in Switzerland is greatly simplified. Ukrainians will now be able to move to another canton if it allows them to find a job. Previously, the Swiss cantons had strict rules on changing the place of residence of refugees, which limited their employment opportunities.
Support for the unemployed
The Federal Council is also introducing additional measures to support unemployed Ukrainians with S status. From now on, they will have to register with Swiss public employment agencies and participate in professional integration or reintegration activities. This is intended to increase their chances of finding a job and facilitate their adaptation to the Swiss labor market.

Additional changes
In addition to the measures for Ukrainian refugees, the Swiss Federal Council also plans to facilitate access to the labor market for third-country nationals who have completed their studies in Switzerland. To this end, consultations have already begun on amending the relevant legislation.
Protection status S: what does it mean?
The S protection status in Switzerland was introduced in March 2022 specifically for Ukrainian refugees. It allows them to avoid the complicated asylum procedure and provides access to housing, financial support and medical care.
According to the latest data, about 66,000 Ukrainians have this status in Switzerland, and it will be valid until at least 2026.
The measures adopted by the Federal Council will facilitate the faster integration of Ukrainian refugees into Swiss society, facilitate the employment process and increase their economic independence.
