Vienna has become the most comfortable city in the world for the third time in the last five years. The Economist published this year's ranking of The Global Liveability Index 2022.

"The city offers many opportunities for culture and entertainment, as well as good infrastructure and general stability," says The Economist article.

The ten most comfortable cities also include Copenhagen (Denmark), Zurich (Switzerland), Calgary and Vancouver (Canada), Geneva (Switzerland), Frankfurt (Germany), Toronto (Canada), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Osaka (Japan), and Melbourne (Australia).

Tehran (Iran), Douala (Cameroon), Harare (Zimbabwe), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea), Karachi (Pakistan), Algiers (Algeria),  Tripoli (Libya), Lagos (Nigeria), and Damascus (Syria) were recognized as the least comfortable for life.

The study notes that the relaxation of COVID restrictions had a positive effect on the rating of Western European cities. Thus, Frankfurt rose by 32 places compared to the previous year, London - by 27 positions (33rd place), Paris - by 23 (19th place).

Because of the war, Kyiv did not get into the rating of the most comfortable cities in the world at all.

"The war in Ukraine also affects the standard of living. In 2022, Kyiv was not rated because the correspondent was forced to abandon the survey when hostilities began,” The Economist writes.

Budapest and Warsaw lost stability indicators due to geopolitical tensions. And Russian Moscow and St. Petersburg fell in the ranking from 15th and 13th place to 80th and 88th, due to the fact that hundreds of Western firms left Russia, and censorship in the country increased. If the war in Ukraine continues this year, even more cities will suffer from disruptions in food and fuel supplies.

The ranking is based on more than 30 factors, which are grouped into five categories: sustainability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. Also, for the second year, indicators related to COVID are taken into account.
