Foreigners are prohibited from entering, except those holding a permanent resident visa or a family member of an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia (husband / wife, de facto partner, child, legal guardian).
Passengers entering or transiting through Australia must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test result. The test must have been taken at most 72 hours before departure from the first embarkation point. More details can be found at https://tinyurl.com/y398dxv4 .
This does not apply to:
- passengers younger than 5 years;
- passengers arriving from Kiribati, New Zealand, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Isl., Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu or Vanuatu;
- passengers with a medical certificate with a positive Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test result, and a medical discharge issued at least 4 weeks before departure which specifies that:
- at least 14 days have passed since they were infected with Coronavirus (COVID-19);
- 72 hours have passed since recovery of fever and respiratory symptoms;
- passengers have recovered from Coronavirus (COVID-19) and are not contagious.
Air transit is permitted subject to obtaining a transit visa and permission to leave the mandatory 14-day quarantine from the health authorities of the relevant state / territory of Australia where the transit airport is located.
A transit visa must be obtained even for a technical stop in Australia and staying only on the plane, without going to the airport.
