A Cuban work visa (D-1) issued to foreign nationals who have work contact with a Cuban company or organization, such as technicians and scientists.

The Cuba work visa is for foreign nationals who want to work in Cuba for a Cuban employer/company.

Requirements for obtaining a work visa to Cuba:

• Certificate of residence permit in Cuba, which you can get at the Cuban consulate.
• Certificates, diplomas or other qualifications that prove you have relevant experience for the job.
• Proof of financial solvency indicating that you can support yourself and any family members coming with you to Cuba.
• Two passport size photos of you.
• Police clearance certificate issued within the last three months.
• A medical certificate containing the results of blood tests, an AIDS test and a chest X-ray. The results cannot be older than six months and must be legalized.
• A valid passport that is valid for at least two months from the date you intend to leave Cuba.
• Proof of payment of the Cuban visa fee in cash or through a certified bank or bank transfer.
• If you are applying by post, include a prepaid envelope with sufficient stamps and an address where the consulate can return your documents.
• Do not include cash in the envelope for the Cuban visa fee.

Foreigners and stateless persons wishing to do any work in Cuba must request a work permit, which is processed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), which is responsible for processing and deciding whether or not to grant such a permit. The application and processing of the work permit must be carried out by the contracting company.

The validity period of the employment permit is up to five (5) years from the date of its issuance or for the period of stay, if it is shorter. Applications for renewal are submitted at least forty-five (45) calendar days before the expiration date. Once this term has expired without a request for its renewal, it is considered to have expired.

Before formulating a request for a work permit, the competent authorities verify that the work cannot be performed by Cubans or foreigners permanently residing in Cuba, with the exceptions provided by the legislation issued for investments and foreign representations.

Foreigners or stateless persons may not perform other labor activities, except for authorized ones; Likewise, if they are authorized to provide services in more than one organization, this is clearly stated in the work permit that is issued.

All of the above is established in accordance with Law No. 116, Labor Code of Cuba, Title VII, Section Two, Article 79, and Section Three, Article 107.
