ATTENTION: Citizens of Ukraine can stay in Georgia visa-free for up to 3 years

The Government of Georgia has amended Resolution No. 255 "On Approval of the List of Countries Whose Citizens Can Enter Georgia Without a Visa" of June 5, 2015.

According to the amendments, Ukrainian citizens may stay in Georgia without a visa for up to 3 years. The previously allowed period of stay was extended to two years.

List of required documents for entry to Georgia

To travel to Georgia, Ukrainian citizens must have:

1) a biometric or regular foreign passport

2) travel insurance policy;

3) confirmation of the availability of booked accommodation in Georgia.

Social security of refugees

Persons who have refugee and humanitarian status and belong to the vulnerable category are provided with monthly social assistance;

A person with refugee or humanitarian status has the right to:

(a) To choose a place of residence and to move freely within the territory of Georgia;

b) to receive monthly monetary maintenance in accordance with the legislation of Georgia;

c) travel to another country, except his/her country of origin or countries where members of his/her family may be in danger;

d) receive pre-school and general education as provided for Georgian citizens, use state medical and social programs (except in exceptional cases), as well as have access to vocational and higher education in accordance with the procedure established by Georgian legislation;

e) apply to an authorized body for Georgian citizenship;

(e) To carry out labor activities on equal rights with Georgian citizens, in particular to be self-employed or employed by another employer.

Possibility to extend short-term stays and visas for Ukrainian citizens

In accordance with the Georgian legislation, citizens of Ukraine have the right to visa-free entry and stay on the territory of Georgia for 3 years.

Should I apply for refugee status?

Issues related to asylum in Georgia are regulated by the Law of Georgia on International Protection. The Law provides for the following forms of international protection:

- refugee status;

- humanitarian status;

- the status of a person under temporary protection.

The decision to grant any of the above-mentioned statuses shall be made by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

Crossing the border without a biometric passport - yes or no?

List of travel documents required for entry, stay, exit and transit through the territory of Georgia:

- Ukrainian passport for traveling abroad;

- Ukrainian diplomatic passport;

- Ukrainian service passport;

- seafarer's identity card (if there is a ship's role or an extract from it);

- crew member certificate (if there is an entry in the flight task);

- ID card for return to Ukraine (only for return to Ukraine);

- Ukrainian citizen's passport with contactless electronic carrier - ID Card (exclusively for travel by direct air or sea international communication between the territories of the Parties' states).

What should I do if my passport expires?

From March 1, 2022 the validity of biometric passports of Ukrainian citizens for travel abroad may be extended for up to 5 years.

Extension of passports, pasting of photos of the child into the passports of parents or legal representatives is carried out by territorial bodies/territorial subdivisions of the State Migration Service, as well as embassies and consular offices of Ukraine.

Thus, in order to extend your passport document, you should apply to the consular section of the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia.

What to do if you have a child with you without a passport?

In the absence of a passport document for a child, a photograph of the child is pasted into the passports of parents or legal representatives with their personal data. This information certifies their identity and confirms their Ukrainian citizenship. Also in such a case, a certificate of identification may be issued.

In order to enter data on children in the passports of parents or legal representatives or to issue a relevant certificate, it is necessary to apply to the consular section of the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia.

Crossing the border with pets

When carrying no more than 5 pieces of baggage with pets and/or hand luggage, the animal (pet) must meet the following requirements:

- to be healthy;

- prophylactic vaccination, diagnostic testing and appropriate treatment should be carried out;

- must be accompanied by a veterinary certificate or animal passport.

A passport for dogs and cats must contain the following basic information:

- data about the animal (information for its identification);

- information about the owner of the animal;

- residential address;

- data on veterinary measures performed on the animal (with reference to dates):

- about rabies shots;

- treatment against eco- and endoparasites.

Note:

Pets - dogs, cats, ferrets, invertebrates (except bees and crustaceans), tropical ornamental fish, amphibians, reptiles, all birds (except: quail, pheasants, cabbage, ostrich, chicken, turkey, gull, duck, goose), rodents and domestic rabbits accompanied by the owner or individual responsible for them and are not for sale or transfer to another owner.
