There are no restrictions for citizens of Ukraine. For humanitarian reasons, Ukrainian citizens enter northern Macedonia without a mandatory negative PCR test or COVID-19 vaccination certificate.
What Ukrainians need to know about entering North Macedonia:
Do I need a visa to enter North Macedonia?
Citizens of Ukraine do not need a tourist visa to travel to North Macedonia in 2023. Holders of Ukrainian passports can stay in North Macedonia for a short period of time (up to 90 days).
What documents are required for entry?
The government of the Republic of North Macedonia has simplified entry and transit travel for Ukrainian citizens as much as possible: crossing the border is possible without presenting a foreign passport - on the basis of national documents (passport of a citizen of Ukraine, birth certificate).
Do I need insurance to travel to North Macedonia?
All Ukrainians are required to have health insurance to enter the country for tourist purposes. Refugees are not required to have insurance at the border, but we strongly recommend that you get it for the first 90 days.
Do I need a Green Card to travel to North Macedonia by car now?
Yes, from June 1, 2022, Green Card insurance is mandatory for everyone who travels abroad by car, including refugees.
Temporary protection
The Government of the Republic of Northern Macedonia has simplified entry and transit for Ukrainian citizens as much as possible: crossing the border is possible without presenting a passport - according to national documents (passport of a citizen of Ukraine, birth certificate).
On March 2, 2022, the Government of Northern Macedonia decided to grant temporary asylum to the citizens of Ukraine. Citizens can apply to the police department to the inspector for work with foreigners (сектор работи за странци), to obtain a temporary residence permit (up to one year) in Northern Macedonia for humanitarian reasons. Citizens of Ukraine who have issued this temporary residence permit have the right to employment and social protection in Northern Macedonia.
Crossing the border with pets.
There are no bans. It is possible to cross the border with pets.
Possibility to extend short-term stays and visas for citizens of Ukraine.
There is a visa-free regime between Ukraine and the Republic of Northern Macedonia. Citizens of Ukraine can stay in the country for 90 days for 180. Citizens of Ukraine who are in Northern Macedonia and cannot return to Ukraine due to the security situation have the opportunity to apply for a temporary residence permit for humanitarian reasons (up to one year). To obtain a certificate, you must apply to the police department to the inspector for work with foreigners (сектор работи за странци).
What to do if the passport expires?
According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine 170 of August 28, 2022, from March 1, 2022, the validity of passports of citizens of Ukraine for travel abroad may be extended for up to 5 years. Extension of passports is carried out by territorial bodies of the State Migration Service of Ukraine, embassies and consulates of Ukraine. In case of expiration of the passport for travel abroad, this period may be extended up to five years on the basis of the application of the person or his legal representative. Entering into the passport for travel abroad information about the extension of its validity is free of charge on the day of application of the person in whose name the passport is issued, or his legal representative.
What to do if you have a child without a passport?
Foreign diplomatic missions shall enter information with the indication of personal data about the child into the passport of the parents (one of the parents), another legal representative of the child (hereinafter - the legal representatives), and a photo of the child shall be pasted. This information identifies the child and confirms the citizenship of Ukraine. Entering information about the child is carried out on the day of the legal representative's application free of charge.
Social security for temporarily displaced persons
Citizens of Ukraine who have issued a temporary residence permit in Northern Macedonia for humanitarian reasons have the right to employment and social protection in Northern Macedonia.
Aid
The government has designated medical facilities where citizens of Ukraine will be provided with medical care free of charge. In case of issuing a temporary residence permit for humanitarian reasons, citizens have the right to public health care in Northern Macedonia.

Request for refugee status
Temporary protection for humanitarian reasons should be sought. Citizens of Ukraine who have issued this temporary residence permit have the right to employment and social protection in Northern Macedonia.
Refugee status is issued on a general basis in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Northern Macedonia. Citizens who have decided to apply for official refugee status will be placed at the refugee center in Vezbigovo. Until the status is granted, citizens have no right to leave the territory of Northern Macedonia, have no right to employment, and national documents are detained for the period of consideration of citizens' applications. An application for refugee status is submitted to the nearest police station at the place of residence in Northern Macedonia.
Information on assistance centers for temporarily displaced persons
Citizens in need can apply to the International Committee of the Red Cross at the RNM (a certificate is issued for clothing, footwear, food and hygiene packages). There is also a network of caring Ukrainians and Macedonians living in Northern Macedonia who are ready to help temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine with housing, basic necessities, shelter, etc.
