Immigration to Tanzania for Ukrainians
Any person who is not a Tanzanian citizen by birth or descent may apply for Tanzanian citizenship by naturalization to the Minister responsible for citizenship.
Conditions for obtaining citizenship by naturalization
- residence in the United Republic for twelve months immediately preceding the date of application,
- during the ten years immediately preceding the specified period of twelve months, he/she has resided in the United Republic for periods of at least seven years,
- that he/she has a sufficient level of proficiency in Swahili or English,
- that he/she is of good character
- that, in view of his/her past and potential contribution to the national economy or scientific and technological progress, and to the national social and cultural welfare, he/she would be a suitable citizen of the United Republic
- that if naturalized, he/she intends to reside permanently in the United Republic.
Application procedure
The application for Tanzanian citizenship is carried out according to the following procedure:
- The applicant fills in the prescribed forms.
- The applicant applies to the Executive Secretary of the Chamber or the Shekhia (in the case of Zanzibar) at the applicant's place of residence.
- The Executive Secretary of the Chamber or Shehia submits the application to the district immigration office and the applicant pays a non-refundable registration fee of USD 1,500.
- The applicant must publish a notice of intent to apply for naturalization in two consecutive issues of daily newspapers registered in Tanzania on the mainland and in Zanzibar.
- The applicant must be interviewed by the district defense and security committee.
- The district immigration officer forwards the application to the regional immigration officer, who forwards the application to the regional defense and security committee for further consideration.
- The Regional Immigration Officer forwards the application to the Chief Commissioner of Immigration for his recommendation to the Minister.
- In the case of Zanzibar, before the application is sent to the Chief Immigration Officer, the Zanzibar Immigration Officer forwards the application to the Office of the Second Vice President for a recommendation, which is then forwarded to the Chief Immigration Officer for his recommendation to the Minister.
- The Chief Commissioner of Immigration forwards the recommended application to the Minister for a final decision.
Naturalization of women married to Tanzanian citizens
A woman who is married to a citizen of the United Republic of Tanzania has the right to naturalize into the citizenship of the United Republic at any time during the life of her husband by submitting an application in the prescribed form.
Application procedure
- You need to fill out an application in the prescribed form.
- You can submit the application at the district, regional or main immigration department and pay a non-refundable application fee of USD 1500.
- The applicant must publish in two consecutive issues of daily newspapers registered in Tanzania and Zanzibar a notice of intent to apply for citizenship.
- The district or regional immigration officer forwards the application to the Chief Commissioner of Immigration for his/her recommendation.
- The Chief Commissioner of the Immigration Service forwards the application to the Minister for a final decision.
Requirements:
An application for Tanzanian citizenship by a married woman must be accompanied by a document confirming the citizenship of her husband:
- Proof of Husband's Citizenship.
- A marriage certificate registered in Tanzania.
- Copy of a valid national passport
- Proof of valid immigration status.
- Five recent passport size photographs.
