Seats from Visit Ukraine have appeared in the Kyiv metro, which can be used during an air raid. Find out at which stations you can get seats for a comfortable stay in the shelter
Kyiv metro is the capital's main urban transport. About 50% of the total volume of urban passenger transportation is accounted for by this type of transport.
In 61 years, the metro stopped working only twice: during the Revolution of Dignity on February 18-20, 2014 and in the spring of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. And then February 24, 2022 came... For the first time in history, underground metro stations of the capital began to work around the clock as a shelter for civilians during enemy rocket attacks.
During the first two months of the war, people literally lived in subway stations with their children and pets. Today, during air raids, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and foreign guests of the capital are hiding in the subway from rocket and drone attacks.
In particular, on New Year's Eve, about 5,200 people used the underground as a shelter.
The danger often lasts for hours. The infrastructure of the subway provides the most necessary conditions: drinking water, sanitary facilities and the possibility of recharging gadgets. However, taking into account such factors as the temperature and the large number of people, there was a need to provide additional seating.
Attention was drawn to this by the charity fund of the Visit Ukraine union, which since the first days of the war has been helping Ukrainians and foreigners to get the necessary information on how to safely enter / leave Ukraine or evacuate from a dangerous region, how to act in a critical situation, where to turn, etc. Over 10 million users found useful information on Visit Ukraine during 2022.
On January 4, 2023, the first batch of 1,000 seats was handed over to Visit Ukraine for a more comfortable stay of citizens in the metro during air strikes.
Ask for a seat from the employees at the Golden Gate, Lva Tolstoho Square, Teatralna, Polytechnic Institute, Pecherska stations. And don't forget to give back.
Please stay safe and take shelter during an air alert!
