Ukrainians who have found refuge abroad come back to Ukraine from time to time. There are many reasons for this: from homesickness to urgent business. Also, foreigners do not lose interest and continue to plan trips. But whatever motivates you to travel, you should plan your route carefully.

Since there are no direct flights, the only way to get to Ukraine from European countries is by land. Read on to find out how to get to Ukraine from the Czech Republic.

Read more about visa rules and obtaining a visa to Ukraine for Czech citizens here.

It should be noted that over 12 thousand tourists from the Czech Republic visited Ukraine in the first half of 2023.

Plane to the nearest European airport

From the Czech Republic, you can fly to airports in Ukraine's neighboring countries: Poland, Moldova, Hungary, and Romania. WizzAir offers direct flights from Prague to Bucharest, and RyanAir offers flights from Prague to Krakow, Gdansk, and Budapest.

After the flight, you need to use a train or bus to get to your destination in Ukraine.

By train to Ukraine

"Ukrzaliznytsia has well-developed connections with European countries. Unfortunately, there is no direct train to Prague, but you can travel to six countries without a stopover: Poland, Hungary, Austria, Moldova, Romania, and Slovakia. Read more information about train routes here.

Refugees and foreigners can travel from the Czech Republic, for example, to Warsaw or Chełm and take direct trains to Kyiv, Lviv, or Kharkiv. You can also take a route through Vienna, Kosice, and Budapest.

One of the most convenient options is the Prague-Kyiv train route with a change in Przemysl. This connection is offered by RegioJet. After arriving in Przemyśl, passengers will be transferred to a Ukrainian train to Kyiv. We recommend buying tickets in advance, as this route is in great demand.

The LeoExpress carrier operates daily direct flights from Prague to Kosice in Slovakia. The train stops in the following Czech cities: Kolín, Pardubice, Zabřeh, Olomouc, Přerov, Ostrava, Bohumín and others. Buses go from Kosice to Mukachevo or Uzhhorod. It should be added that one ticket is valid for both trips, so you don't need to pay for the bus separately. Buy tickets on the carrier's website.
